Statement from the Montgomery County Commission for Women on the Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court

On Wednesday, April 7, Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court with a 53-47 vote.  All 50 senate Democrats and 3 Republicans voted in favor of the nomination, while 47 Republicans voted against.

Jackson will be the Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.

65 Year Old Man Convicted of Murdering Girlfriend’s Son’s Girlfriend in Silver Spring

A jury convicted defendant Biet Van Tran, 65, of Silver Spring on charges of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of Linh Pham, 23, and two counts of attempted first-degree murder for the attacks on Quy Luc, 30, and Thi Nguyen, 19.

Tran faces life in prison and is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Sept. 20th, 2022, at 1:30p.m.

Jury Finds Boyds Man Guilty of First Degree Felony Murder After Robbing and Shooting A Man Three Times

A jury has found defendant, Joshua Toure, 26, of Boyds, guilty of first-degree felony murder, second-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, for the death of 28-year-old Joseph Davis.

Toure faces life in prison plus an additional 20 years. The verdict came down late yesterday evening, and a sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
