Governor Larry Hogan Announces Maryland Strong Economic Recovery Initiative

Governor Larry Hogan announced in a press conference today an unprecedented expansion of state assistance with the launch of the Maryland Strong Economic Recovery Initiative.


Per Montgomery County:

New parking rates at Montgomery County-operated garages, parking lots and street meters in Downtown Silver Spring will go into effect beginning on Monday, Nov. 2, and will be implemented in stages over the course of the month. The Montgomery County Council adopted the parking rates as part of the Fiscal Year 2021 budget process.


2022 is the 161st anniversary of The Battle of Ball’s Bluff. According to local lore, the area around the 33/34 Mile Mark of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O Canal) near Poolesville is haunted by the ghosts of Civil War Soldiers (photos below).

During the early days of the American Civil War, Union soldiers ferried across the Potomac River from the Maryland side in Montgomery County to the Virginia side for the Battle of Ball’s Bluff against the Confederate Army, who were camped alongside the river in Leesburg, VA.


MoCo Has Gone Five Days Without a Report of a COVID-19 Related Death

MoCo has remained at 820 COVID-19 related death for five consecutive days (since October 15th), marking the first time this has happened since the end of March, according to date this week from the Montgomery County COVID-19 Dashboard.


The Annual Orionid Meteor Shower is Coming to Montgomery County on October 20 and 21

NASA recommends viewers to watch from a remote area, away from any city lights. After getting comfy in a lawn chair or sleeping bag, watchers should be facing southeast. The shower is expected to start after 12 AM and the spectacle will last until dawn, leaving plenty of time to catch a glimpse of the meteors.
