For this list, we are not including any of the fro-yo spots or any of the large chains (Coldstone, Baskin Robbins, Bruster’s, Rita’s, etc.), but we are including shaved/crushed ice and frozen treats of that nature. We know you may not agree with all of these, but we trust our teams judgement 🍦

Just Missed:

Guitar Center opens their second MoCo location at Ellsworth Place in Silver Spring this week (there’s one in Rockville).

After a delay of a few months, Nespresso has opened in Montgomery Mall.

Located in Germantown, Mangino’s prides itself on its flavorful New York style pizza. I’m not a big toppings guy, so I’ve only ventured as far as cheese and pepperoni. If you like your pizza oozing with cheese, then you have to check it out. They deliver within a 5 mile radius too. It may sound a little odd, but this is the kind of pizza I imagine the Ninja Turtles eating and if you’ve ever seen anything related to the Ninja Turtles, you know they love pizza!

The biggest problem I encounter when I go to Taco Bar is deciding between the different types of tacos, the amazing tortas (Mexican sandwiches), and the nachos. That’s not even a quarter of what they have to offer either. It’s the type of place that has something for everyone, you just have to find what’s right for you. Very affordable and very tasty! It’s located at the outskirts of the Rio Washingtonian Center in Gaithersburg, next to Ziki Japanese Steakhouse.

The History of the 495 Bridge Graffiti (Near the DC Temple)

The first form of ‘Surrender Dorothy’ that was seen on the bridge leading up to the LDS temple on 495 was created with wadded up newspapers that were placed in the chain link fence by Catholic school girls. More specifically, young ladies from Holy Child’s graduating classes of 1973-76. They went with the now locally famous phrase for two reasons; the temple reminded many of Emerald City and The Wizard of Oz was the school play that was coming up a few weeks later. The papers were removed within 24 hours.

The restaurants we selected have at least one Montgomery County, MD. location, and delivery chains are not included. We are including the Yelp rating of the restaurant (or highest Yelp rating if there are multiple MoCo locations) just for reference. Please keep in mind that Yelp reviews take more than just the food into account and this list is based strictly on the taste of the pizza.

There are over 100 restaurants that are eligible for this list, so this wasn’t easy…

We have received input from many local chefs and restaurant owners and combined it with our personal opinion as well as the opinions of hundreds of Montgomery County residents through various forms of research. 14 of the 15 Greek restaurants in the county received Top 5 votes, so you really can’t go wrong at almost any Greek restaurant in MoCo.

Note: We did not include the fast casual Cava Grill restaurants, but did include the full-service Cava Mezze restaurants in our rankings.
