Montgomery County Police are asking residents in the area of 18600 Olney Mill Rd. in Olney to shelter in place as they attempt to take an adult male into custody. MCPD released the following information on Tuesday evening at 9:30pm:

MedStar Health In Olney announced a $250,000 philanthropic gift from long-time community partner Sandy Spring Bank to expand cancer care services at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center. The gift will be used toward the development of the Oncology Pavilion at MedStar Montgomery to house oncology services such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and other treatment and support services.
Sandy Spring Bank’s support of MedStar Montgomery dates back to the founding of the then Montgomery General Hospital in the early 1900s and has continued for more than 100 years through various community, philanthropic, and volunteer support initiatives.

These standards are built on Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, a set of evidence-based practices recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for optimal infant feeding support in the first days of a newborn’s life.
El Andariego (5 Olney Sandy Spring Rd), a staple of the Ashton community for over 20 years, has announced that it will close from Monday, August 8th until Sunday, August 14th to provide its staff with a full week of vacation. In announcement made via social media, the restaurant states the following:
“Dear customers of El Andariego Restaurant, we want to notify you that after a long season of hard work of more than 2 years and during a pandemic, we have deemed it good to give a full week of vacation to our respectable staff, who deserve this time off for their unconditional support and honorable service. Due to the lack of more workers, El Andariego Restaurant will be closed from monday, august 8 to sunday, august 14, 2022. Olney Crab House opened at 18200 Georgia Avenue, Suite F/G, in May after 2.5 years of challenges that included a change in ownership. The restaurant is now looking to add a liquor license and has applied for a “Class B, Beer, Wine, and Liquor License, On Sale Only.” The hearing is set for Thursday, August 4th at 10:30am.

WSSC has issued a Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Advisory for the Triadelphia Reservoir, warning to avoid direct contact with water. Drinking water is not affected. The Triadelphia Reservoir is located along the Patuxent River, near the Olney/Brookeville area, between Montgomery and Howard Counties. Their full message can be seen below:
“WSSC Water has detected high concentrations of blue-green algae in the Triadelphia Reservoir, which can cause serious adverse health effects if contacted. The reservoir, located along the Patuxent River in Montgomery and Howard counties, serves as a drinking water source for WSSC Water and as a recreational area for hiking, fishing and boating.
Fernando Rivera was last seen on Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 9 a.m., in the 17400 block of Winter Laurel Dr.
Rivera is approximately 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 110 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. It is unknown what he was last seen wearing.
Olney Theatre is currently presenting a 2.5 hour (with 15 minute intermission) staging of Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, which runs until July 24th. It features a cast of Deaf, hearing, and hard-of-hearing artists, and all shows are performed in ASL and spoken English and open-captioned.
PBS NewsHour recently profiled the production (video available below), which officially opened June 29 and continues through July 24. Actor Hugh Jackman also recently shouted out Olney Theatre’s production and the PBS profile on Instagram, referring to it as “incredibly heartwarming.”
The focus of National Night Out is to enhance the partnership among neighbors, law enforcement, and businesses, to cultivate a true sense of community. “While Olney already has a good relationship with our first responders, this event provides a great opportunity to thank and engage those who keep us safe,” added Hogan. “It’s also a chance to get out and meet your neighbors, and that truly is what National Night Out is all about.”
