The DMV has many scenic areas and buildings that have been used as striking locales for filming film and TV. Whether it’s downtown D.C., Baltimore, or Annapolis, location scouts consistently look to our surrounding areas as visual homes for their stories. Montgomery County is no different.

During Christmastime in the year 1863, cavalry units and soldiers of the 39th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment were encamped on the land that Poolesville High School now sits on.

2022 is the 161st anniversary of The Battle of Ball’s Bluff. According to local lore, the area around the 33/34 Mile Mark of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O Canal) near Poolesville is haunted by the ghosts of Civil War Soldiers (photos below).
During the early days of the American Civil War, Union soldiers ferried across the Potomac River from the Maryland side in Montgomery County to the Virginia side for the Battle of Ball’s Bluff against the Confederate Army, who were camped alongside the river in Leesburg, VA.

The Healthy Hub, a locally owned healthy smoothie & energy tea bar, opened a few weeks back in Poolesville.
It is located at 19961 Fisher Ave behind Poolesville Hardware, in the old Bob’s Bicycle location.
Watershed Cafe, the Ag reserve’s only farm to table restaurant, has closed permanently.
The Poolesville restaurant opened in 2017 and focused on partnerships with local farmers.
Sugarloaf Mountain is temporarily closed due to COVID-19 (coronavirus).
The park will remain closed until further notice.
The Comus Inn at Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson is temporarily closed after being purchased by new owners.
According to their website, they will re-open this summer after “transforming The Inn into this new, absolutely amazing, family-friendly, community-driven, agritourist destination for both dining & play!”
These stamps will be issued tomorrow (Wednesday, 4/10), and will be available for purchase on the USPS website.
Windridge Winery could be opening their winery and tasting room within the next few years in MoCo.
