Recommendations included in the plan were developed based on prior studies, plans and public discussions dating back to 1981, and address various historic preservation program needs, such as survey and inventory of historic resources, historic districts, incentives, easements, education and outreach, prehistory, and archaeology.

In addition to providing a needed assessment of programming and policy, the work plan will help develop components to be incorporated in an update to Rockville’s Historic Preservation Plan, formerly known as the Historic Resources Management Plan. The Mayor and Council are scheduled to discuss the work plan at their Monday, March 20 meeting.


Per the City of Rockville: Rockville’s annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies each include a member of the military as a featured speaker. Rockville and Montgomery County residents who have retired from, or currently serve in, the United States military are eligible to take part in the ceremonies. The Memorial Day ceremony will be held Monday, May 29. The Veterans Day ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 11. Volunteer speakers must be comfortable speaking in public and must prepare a five- to seven-minute speech about their experiences in the armed forces, including what it means to serve and to honor those who have served.


Per the City of Rockville: Rockville is a great place to get around by all modes of transportation. People may drive to a park, bike to work, or walk or roll to a store. Traffic safety is a shared responsibility. Just like drivers, people walking, rolling, and bicycling need to do their part to keep themselves and everyone else on the road safe. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when bicycling:


Per the City of Rockville: Rockville’s Procurement Division will host an event in April offering vendors the opportunity to learn more about doing business with city government. Registration is now open for “Rockville Means Business” on Thursday, April 20 at Glenview Mansion at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. The event, from 9 a.m.-noon, will feature information sessions and exhibits by city departments giving vendors the opportunity to interact with City of Rockville staff. A continental breakfast will be available.


Rockville’s Compost Crew Inc., the largest food scrap recycling company in the Mid-Atlantic, has had announced record year of growth. According to a recent press release, the company more than doubled the amount of food waste collected in 2021 to over 15 million pounds.

Per the press release: The state of Maryland’s new law requiring large food waste generators to divert their food scraps has helped to drive over 50% growth in the number of commercial customers serviced, including apartment buildings, hotels, hospitals, grocery stores and schools. New commercial customers last year include Whole Foods Market, Hungry Harvest and the Maryland Zoo. Compost Crew also experienced significant growth with existing customers like MedStar Health and the George Washington University.


Montgomery County Police responded to an armed robbery on Tuesday afternoon in Rockville. According to police, “At approximately 1:56 p.m., MCP officers responded to the 7-11 store at 10020 Darnestown Rd. for the report of an armed robbery that just occurred. The preliminary investigation has determined that the armed suspect entered the store, stole an undisclosed amount of money, and left the scene.  No injuries have been reported. The suspect has not been apprehended.”

Per MCPD: An 18-year-old high school student is in custody following the armed robbery of a Montgomery County gas station. Rockville City Police officers arrested Jeffrey Gabriel Johnson of Rockville, on Monday, February 27 at Richard Montgomery High School, where he was taken into custody without incident.

On Monday, February 20, 2023, at approximately 9:52 a.m., Gaithersburg and Montgomery County Police officers responded to the Summit Shell Station at 15 South Summit Ave in Gaithersburg for the report of an armed robbery.    The investigation determined that two Black males entered the store, and one suspect pulled a knife from his waistband.  The suspect went behind the counter, held the knife to the clerk, and demanded that the clerk open the cash register.   The clerk complied and the suspect removed an undisclosed amount of money from the drawer.  Both suspects ran from the store after the armed robbery.


Home Depot has purchased its own store at 15740 Shady Grove Road at the 270 Center in Gaithersburg. According to a report by Maryland Newsletters, Home Depot recently paid $55.5 million for the 102,190 SF building. The store was previously subdivided out of the larger shopping center so that it could be sold individually.

Home Depot is a co-anchor of 270 Center, a shopping center shadow-anchored by a powerful mix of destination retailers including Best Buy, Nordstrom Rack, and soon (maybe), a brand new Amazon Fresh grocer. The property benefits from high historical occupancy, high sales, and long-term leases. Nordstrom Rack has been at the property for ±10 years and is ranked the 2nd busiest Nordstrom Rack in the state of Maryland by customer foot traffic. Best Buy has co-anchored the property since its inception in 1994.


Per MCPD: Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 2nd District Patrol Services have arrested and charged 23-year-old Thomas Tabbs, of Harrisburg, PA, with the theft of two catalytic converters that were stolen on Monday, February 20, 2023, in the 10500 block of Montrose Ave. in Bethesda.

At approximately 6:33 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the location for the report of a theft of vehicle parts.


Public testimony for the Superintendent’s Recommendation to Relocate Burtonsville Elementary School to the Northeast Consortium Elementary School #17 Site and the Superintendent’s Recommendation for the Boundary Study Scope for the Reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School.

The Montgomery County Board of Education will hold a public hearing on March 9, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., to hear testimony regarding the Superintendent’s Recommendation to Relocate Burtonsville Elementary School to the Northeast Consortium Elementary School #17 Site and the Superintendent’s Recommendation for the Boundary Study Scope for the Reopening of Charles W. Woodward High School.  Video, audio and in-person testimony will be accepted and will be made available to the public on BoardDocs. Individuals who wish to provide public comments will register using the online registration form.
