Updated July 4th with additional information. Just a couple days after we showed you some of the progress of the interior at the upcoming Amazon Fresh location on Shady Grove Rd in Gaithersburg, signage has been put up on the front side of the building. It has been nearly two years since we first reported that Office Depot would be closing and that an Amazon grocery store would be taking its place back in September 2020.

Amazon Fresh, located at 15790 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg, looks like it will open this summer based on what we were able to see earlier this week. Fixtures and signage is up inside the store and the freezers have already been installed and are up and running. Charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed in the parking lot, located where only Amazon Fresh customers are likely to park in front of the store.

At the time, all residents were told they “should shelter in place immediately until further notice.” The community is located near Rockville Town Center.

Residents reported heavy police presence, closed roads, and a low flying helicopter with a search light on the scene after a Rockville resident called the police after for what was believed to be a person with a gun in their backyard at approximately 9:45pm.

Back in January we let you know that the Dunkin Donuts that’s currently located in the recently renovated Rock Grove Center on the corner of 355 and Shady Grove will be relocating, according to Chris Wilkinson of JBG Smith. It will be moving to the back side of the shopping center, taking over the old United Bank location at 16268 Frederick Rd. We stopped by on Monday, and construction has moved along quickly (photos below).

The bank had a drive-thru, which will be used by Dunkin’. Baskin Robbins has also been added to this location, so customers can get their frozen treats on the go. The shopping center is currently home to Minerva, the newly opened Qdoba, and more, with a few retail locations still available to lease.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responded to a call at the Rockville Swim Center (355 Martins Ln) due to a reaction caused by the mixing of chemicals. A HazMat crew and various support units were on the scene assisting as the building was evacuated and the swim center was temporary closed. There were no injuries reported.

The City of Rockville has since posted a thank you to MCFRS and announced that the Rockville Swim Center has reopened. “MCFRS for the quick response. Rockville Swim and Fitness Center has fully reopened after the temporary closure of the indoor facility and a brief move outdoors for indoor programming. The center is once again operating on a normal schedule this morning.”

In response, the church wrote, “Someone stole the chairs, we remember anyway, faithworkshere” and “Chair thief, if you need more let us know, we can share” on its outdoor sign.

Two 19-year-olds, Christian Santos and Christian Feliz-Mendez, were arrested and charged with Montgomery County, stemming from an incident that occurred at an apartment complex on the 5900 block of Montrose Rd. in Rockville, according to FOX 5. Santos, one of the two teenagers, has been identified as a cadet for the Metropolitan Police Department, but has since been terminated.

According to police, the two men arranged to meet with someone from Facebook who was selling a pair of Jordan 12 sneakers. The victim told investigators that shortly after arriving at the apartment complex, one of the two suspects pulled a gun and took the shoes. The victim reported that the suspect deactivated his Facebook account after the incident, but the account was later reactivated. It was then traced back to Christian Santos, who was also placed in the area by cell phone records.
