Last month we let you know that BoBaPop Tea Bar opened up inside the Kyoto Matcha location at 33 Maryland Ave Unit A in Rockville Town Square.  The store will officially hold a Grand Opening this weekend, with deals on drinks available both days.

BoBaPoP opened its location at 312 Main Street in the Kentlands in 2018 and was the first of the Vietnamese based company’s stores to open in the United States. BoBaPop opened its second MoCo location at 19847 Century Blvd, Unit J in Germantown, the former site of August 32, back in November.  The company has over 150 stores worldwide.


The City of Rockville will hold a virtual forum on Town Center, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 28. Rockville Town Center comprises about 200 acres of the city, generally bounded by properties along Fleet Street to the south, South and North Washington streets along the west, and the railroad tracks to the east.

HomeSense opens today at 12013 Rockville Pike in Rockville, the former site of A.C. Moore. The store is open from 8am until 10pm on opening day. HomeSense is owned by the same company that owns HomeGoods, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx. Cosmopolitan magazine describes Homesense as “HomeGoods on steroids.” The chain sells furniture, rugs, lighting, kitchenware, home décor, and books.

Angela Judge, who was an assistant city manager with Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and formerly with the City of Atlanta, Georgia, was named Rockville’s deputy city manager in May of 2021, with her official duties in the position beginning on Monday, June 14. Approximately one year later, the City of Rockville announced her departure, effective today, Wednesday, June 15.

Per the City of Rockville: Deputy City Manager Angela Judge is departing the City of Rockville as of today, Wednesday, June 15. She will be joining her husband, Warren, who will be assuming command of United States Coast Guard Training Center Cape May in Cape May, New Jersey. “I want to express my sincerest appreciation, on behalf of all of us, to Deputy City Manager Angela Judge for the outstanding work she has performed in the past year for our organization and community,” City Manager Rob DiSpirito said.

Summer House Santa Monica has reopened following a kitchen fire that caused approximately $25k in damages. The restaurant remained closed after the fire on Sunday and all of Monday before reopening at 4pm today.

From Sunday: Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Units were called to the scene of a kitchen fire at Summer House Santa Monica on the 11800 block of Grand Park Avenue in the Pike & Rose development at approximately 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer.


Back in September we let you know that South Block, a smoothie and juice bar best known for their acai bowls, would be opening a new location in Pike & Rose. South Block has been aiming for a summer 2022 opening, and announced this morning that it will be opening on Tuesday, June 21st.

JK Beer and Wine is moving from its current location at 800 Rockville Pike to 331 Kentlands Blvd, the former location of Liberty Income Tax, in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood in the space located on the other side of Giuseppi’s.

JK Beer and Wine opened at its current Rockville Pike location in the Golden Arcade shopping center, next to Yuan Fu Vegetarian, in the fall of 2021. It took over the space that was previously home to Enterprise. There will be a hearing with Montgomery County’s Alcoholic Beverage Services (ABS) at 11:30am on Thursday, June 16th for a “transfer of location of a Class A, Beer and Wine License, Off Sale Only with delivery, for the premises known as JK Beer & Wine.”


The Rockville City Police Department invites the community to join a conversation about public safety in Rockville. The town hall meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23 at F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park, 603 Edmonston Drive.

Per Rockville Police: Chief Victor V. Brito and other members of the RCPD will be joined by representatives from the Montgomery County Police Department 1st District, Metro Transit Police Department, and the City of Rockville to discuss policing issues and the best way to communicate with the police.


Summer House Santa Monica will remain closed for at least the first half of today as the popular Pike & Rose destination awaits inspections following a kitchen fire that caused approximately $25k in damages. The restaurant tells us they hope to reopen for dinner, but that it looks unlikely at the moment. We’ll have an update on the impending reopening of the restaurant as soon as we get word from Summer House.
