Uniqlo Grand Opening in Silver Spring Friday, August 25th at 10am

Uniqlo will hold its Grand Opening at 914 Ellsworth Dr in Silver Spring on Friday, August 25th at 10am. The Grand Opening will consist of exclusive, limited-time offers that are available only in-store. The event will also feature giveaways and access to new collections, according to the store website. Included in the new collections are locally-inspired ‘Maryland’ and ‘Silver Spring’ designs that have been created by artist Lauren Martin (photos below).

Uniqlo opened its first and only other MoCo location in September of 2018 in Pike & Rose. The Downtown Silver Spring location will be taking over the 10,058 SF space at 914 Ellsworth St that was formerly home to Ulta prior to the move to its current location in Downtown Silver Spring.

La Table Du Chateau’s French Breakfast/Brunch Will No Longer Be Available at The Block in Pike & Rose

Chef Max Zelenkov and his wife Iqra Zelenkov announced the grand opening of La Table Du Chateau at The Block at Pike and Rose (967 Rose Ave. North Bethesda) last month, debuting as a weekend-only breakfast/brunch spot on Saturday, July 22. One month later the two sides have concluded their working relationship. La Table Du Chateau will continue to operate as it did before this venture, as a catering company, and will also be available at area farmers markets in Olney and Maple Lawn going forward.

Chef Max Zelenkov’s journey began when he emigrated as a Ukrainian/Russian native to the United States and was raised and pursued his education in Montgomery County. MoCo, a melting pot of culture and tradition, was the perfect setting to foster Chef Max’s fascination with the world’s diverse culinary traditions. Iqra Zelenkov tells us the duo hopes to launch their own storefront in a year or so, if finances permit them to, but for now will just expand their catering and farmers markets presence.

ala Bethesda to Open This Fall

The owners of ala in Dupont Circle have announced they will open ala Bethesda at 4948 Fairmont Ave, in the former Positano restaurant space. According to ala, the menu will be similar to the Dupont location, “where the cuisine melds the flavors of Turkey, Syria, Israel, Lebanon and beyond (known as the Levant region), an area of the world that has both a long history and a colorful past.” The new restaurant will feature a patio and rooftop, and is expected to open this fall.

Per ala: ala is under the culinary direction of Executive Chef Ercan Sahn, an internationally trained chef who recently took over the kitchen. The menu celebrates the flavor and history of the Levantine cooking it has become synonymous for, but with a fine dining touch. A native of Turkey, Chef Sahn has worked all over the world over the past 20 years, including in Dubai, Turkey and Cyprus. Most recently, Sahn worked closely with acclaimed DC Chef Fabio Trabocchi at Michelin starred Wharf restaurant Del Mar. He will also oversee the menu at ala Bethesda. Owner Deniz Gulluoglu and her family live in the Cabin John area of Bethesda and are excited to bring the restaurant to Montgomery County.

Kogi Grill Goes Dark in Gaithersburg Square

Kogi Asian Grill, a fast-casual restaurant that opened in August 2021, has gone dark at 560 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg Square. Readers informed us that the restaurant was not open in recent days and our calls went unanswered. When we stopped by, the doors were closed and equipment was unplugged (photos below).

Kogi was one of the new additions to the recently renovated Gaithersburg Square shopping center. The restaurant offered Korean/Asian fast-casual restaurant.

Antojitos Salvadoreños Isabel to Open This Friday in Montgomery Village

Antojitos Salvadoreños Isabel at 19114 Montgomery Village Ave is scheduled to open this Friday, August 25. The restaurant is located in the former Einstein Bagel Bros spot in the Montgomery Village Shopping Center. The restaurant will serve traditional Salvadorian dishes like pupusas, tamales, yuca con chicharron, and pastelitos (full menu can be seen below.) Einstein Bros closed its Montgomery Village store in December 2021. La Poteria, which sells Colombian street food and coffee, is located next door.

In other Montgomery Village Shopping Center news, signage has been installed at the upcoming Hangry Joe’s. The Nashville-style hot chicken restaurant will be located adjacent to the Starbuck’s at 19290 Montgomery Village Ave. Also, construction is ongoing and “coming soon” signage is up for Baskin Robbins, which will be located next to the upcoming Safe Splash Swim School and Suburban Hair.

The Original Steak and Hoagies to Open First Maryland Location This Weekend

The Original Steaks and Hoagies will open its first Maryland location this weekend at 10450 Owings Mills Blvd in Owings Mills. The Ohio-based franchise offers specialty cheesesteaks like “The Hangover,” with hot sauce, fried egg, bacon, onions, hot peppers, and cheese whiz, and the “Black And Blue,” with Cajun seasoning, mushrooms, and blue cheese cream. In addition to to hoagies/cheesesteaks, menu items include wings, salads, fried pickles, and pretzels. According to a report by Baltimore’s ABC2, the chain plans on opening five restaurants in Maryland, with Columbia and College Park mentioned as possible locations.

About Original Steaks and Hoagies: “In August 2010, Bill Fromholzer Jr. (a.k.a. Billy from Philly) opened The Original Steaks & Hoagies in Twinsburg, Ohio–and introduced authentic Philly Cheesesteaks and Hoagies to Northeast Ohio. MoCo Establishments To Be Featured in MPT Special ‘Jewish Delis: Something to Kvell About!‘

Maryland Public Television (MPT) will premiere its original special Jewish Delis: Something to Kvell About! at 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 26 on the statewide public TV network’s main channel, MPT-HD, and the MPT live stream. A preview is available to view on the network’s YouTube channel. Featured will be popular Baltimore deli Attman’s, which has a location in Park Potomac, MoCo’s Corned Beef King, and Call Your Mother, which has MoCo locations in Pike & Rose and Bethesda.

Montgomery County’s first Sheetz, located at 751 Progress Way in Gaithersburg, will hold its grand opening on Thursday, August 24 from 1-3pm. In addition to a “Win Sheetz for a Year” giveaway, the store will be offering discounted gas prices for its first two days.
