Eater DC recently looked at places around DC where people can get crabs to enjoy at home. While there are several places in MoCo to get your crabs, two places in MoCo have made Eater DC’s list:
Bethesda Crab House (4958 Bethesda Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814): “Bethesda Crab House was opened in 1961 by Henry Vechery. Ever since it has been a local tradition. We offer oysters, shrimp, crabcakes, Alaskan King and Snow Crab legs, but our specialty is the Maryland Blue Crab.”
Nosh Grill House, located at 12 N Washington Street in Rockville, is holding its soft opening this week. The restaurant, which offers contemporary Chinese-style bbq, is the neighbor and sister restaurant of East Grill Karaoke and East Dumpling House. Along with all-you-can-eat bbq, Nosh Grill House offers karaoke. The soft opening began on Monday, April 17th and runs Monday-Thursday from 5pm until 1am and Friday-Sunday from 5pm-2am. In October, we let you know that a new Korean barbecue restaurant signed on to take over the space previously occupied by Saffron Indian Cuisine at Woodmont Station in Rockville (1319 Rockville Pike). In February we let you know that the restaurant is Damso Korean BBQ, and the restaurant “soft opened” on Friday, April 14th. Current hours are 5pm-9pm daily. The next step is for WRS, Inc. to present a Schematic Development Plan (SDP) that will include very specific designs for the soon-to-be redeveloped Lakeforest Mall land. In a January meeting, WRS Inc. stated plans to demolish “as soon as they can.” Previously, WRS mentioned 2024 as a target date for demolition to occur and new construction to begin. The Jolly Shows Carnival will be at the Clarksburg Outlets (22705 Clarksburg Road Clarksburg, MD 20871) from April 19 to April 30. There will be over 30 attractions, including carnival rides, games, and food wagons. According to their website, “We are a new generation of carnival operators who strive to be more progressive and professional. We realize that we must produce a premium product for our customer’s hard earned money. We won’t forget our proud traditions, but we are committed to overcoming the stigmas which have hindered our industry for far too long.” Tickets can be purchased here.

Last May we let you know that Dickey’s Barbecue Pit would opening a new location in the recently renovated Montgomery Village Center, next to the upcoming Kobe Japan. The space is now listed as available again on the shopping center’s leasing website, indicating that Dickey’s will no longer be returning to MoCo. Kobe Japan appears to be ready to open soon and BooBoo Pho has recently opened on the other side.
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit previously opened its second Maryland location in Montgomery County when it opened in Germantown in February 2013. The restaurant closed the following year and reopened under new management in July 2014 before closing permanently in early 2016. The first Maryland location was in Gambrills, but has since closed. A sister-and-brother chef team helm the kitchen at Koite Grill, which opened in Downtown Silver Spring in 2021. The Senegalese restaurant offers charcoal-grilled lamb dibi, chicken yassa, Senegal’s national dish, thieboudienne, which means “rice with fish”, and much more. Now, Koite Grill has added a food trailer known as Koite Grill Mobile owner Mamadou Koite, a graduate of Kennedy High School tells us.
The food trailer will be located at 2030 West Virginia Avenue NE DC from Thursday to Friday from 11am until 6:30pm, and will also be located at RFK stadium farmers market on Saturday from 11am until 6:30pm. “We offer the best best grilled lamb in the DMV. The food trailer serves the lamb, the goat, and chicken. We also have salmon, steaks, shrimp, kabobs, and lamb chops.”
Montgomery County Police responded to reports of a shooting Saturday night at Pike & Rose. According to MCPD, “At approximately 11:50 p.m., MCPD responded to the area of Pike and Rose for the report of a shooting. Preliminarily investigation revealed a dispute occurred inside a restaurant. The male subjects left the restaurant. Shots were fired. No injuries were reported. Items of evidentiary value were recovered at the scene. No one is in custody at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.”

Pepino’s has been responsible for most of the parked cars you’ve seen at the Burtonsville Crossing Shopping Center the last few years. Owners/sisters Patti Pignataro and Margaret Manley told us, “Every night’s a dinner party!” when we stopped by during our 2019 “tour of Burtonsville”. Sadly, Pepino’s has confirmed that Saturday, April 29th will be the last day of operations for the restaurant, as they won’t be around for the redevelopment of Burtonsville Crossing.
Originally located in the current Cuba de Ayer location, Pepino’s has been around since 1991. Patti and Margaret bought the restaurant in 2006. They’re the former owners of Umberto’s, which was located in the Cabin John Shopping Center in Potomac. The restaurant didn’t miss a beat and remained a staple in the Burtonsville community.
Last September we let you know that Mochinut, a restaurant that serves mochi donuts, Korean rice flour hotdogs, soft serve, and bubble tea drinks (menu available below), is coming to 838 Rockville Pike– inside the current location of Tea-Do. Tea-Do is a “contemporary tea house” that was on the early side of MoCo’s bubble tea explosion in recent years, opening in January of 2016. The grand opening was for Mochinut was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 15th at noon, but has been pushed back to Saturday, April 29th.
Mochinut offers mochi donuts, which is described as “a donut that originated from Hawaii which is a combination of American doughnuts and Japanese mochi.” Up to 25 different flavors are available, but flavors will vary by location. The Mochinut menu also consists savory treats in the form of Korean hotdogs and offers other sweet menu items like soft serve ice cream and bubble tea drinks.
