Back in November we let you know that Kung Fu Tea signed on to take over the location that’s as recently home to Yogi Berry, next to Starbucks in the same shopping center as Cava Mezze, CVS, and Cafe Rio at 3128 Olney Sandy Spring Road.

The location will also offer TKK Fried Chicken and Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt. TKK Fried Chicken is a Taiwanese chain that specializes in fried chicken. They’ve been around since 1974 and have locations across Taiwan, China, and the United States. Kung Fu Tea hopes to open in Olney by this summer.


In January we let you know that Tutti Frutti was in the process of transitioning its Kentlands location at 200 Kentlands Boulevard in Gaithersburg to Kung Fu Tea.

The change will be made official this weekend, as Kung FunTea will hold a grand opening that will offer Buy 1 Get 1 Drinks on select drinks (see image below).


According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Hook & Reel at 11006 L-10 Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton will be officially opening on Tuesday, March 15.  The restaurant held a soft opening on Sunday, March 13 and according to a representative from the Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village location, will hold another soft opening on Monday.

The restaurant is located between Party City and the old Bar Louie.


Permanent Signage is up for Corner Pizza & Subs in Gaithersburg S.C. (that’s the name of the shopping center), behind MoCo’s only Bruster’s.

The restaurant will be taking over the former Jasmine Bakery Cafe location that was previously home to Classic Bakery (18503 N Frederick Ave).


Tacos Don Perez started off as a small, family-run catering business back in 2017. It continued that way until may 2020, when it became a once-a-week home-based pop-up when the family was left without work due to Covid-19. The pop-up quickly gained support from the local community, as Tacos Don Perez sold out in a matter of hours every single week. With the support of their customers, the family was able to buy and custom build their own food truck, which is now located in the Glenmont shopping center.

The truck opened 6 days a week starting in April 2021 and was featured in a Washington Post article on birria tacos across the DMV. Now the family is preparing to open what they’re touting as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County.” On Saturday, March 19th they will be hosting a celebration that will include games, giveaways, and music.


Yesterday we let you know that Hulu Skewer House would be moving in to 1488-B Rockville Pike, the former location of Mi Rancho and On The Border before that, next to Yekta. The upcoming restaurant has its hearing with Alcohol Beverage Services for a beer, wine, and liquor license at 9:30am on March 17.

We now have additional information on the restaurant. Hulu Skewer House will offer a variety of skewers, appetizers, and Chinese cuisine. They will also have karaoke available on the second floor, which is currently being constructed.


Kumbia, a South American restaurant focusing on cuisine from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador, will be holding its grand opening celebration at on Saturday, March 19th. The new restaurant is located at 100 B Gibbs Street in Rockville Town Square, the former location of Spice Xing.

Per Federal Realty: Kumbia will occupy a 3,904-sqaure-foot space at 100 B Gibbs Street next to First Watch and Truist Bank. Named after the popular music style similar to salsa and reggae, the full-service restaurant will offer a variety of South American food from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador. It will also offer a robust tableside cocktail menu and a variety of nighttime entertainment.


Update: Frank Pepe has announced that due to “unforeseen  events,” the opening of the restaurant has been delayed one week to March, 28.

Connecticut-based Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana  has announced they will open its first DMV location at Bethesda’s Westfield Montgomery Mall (7101 Democracy Blvd) on March 21.


Guavaberry Dominican Restaurant is now open at 8417 Georgia Ave, the former site of The Greek Place. The Greek Place closed this past December. The restaurant is open everyday of the week from from 8am-11pm and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The menu features fish, stews, and mofongo, a dish made with mashed fried green plantains. Dominican cuisine is influenced by Spanish, indigenous Taíno, Middle-Eastern and African dishes.
