Back in December of 2019, we learned that Frank Pepe’s would be opening its first Maryland pizzeria right here in MoCo.
After many delays we have learned that the restaurant is back on track to open, as they currently have a hearing to sell beer and wine scheduled for 10am on September 2nd.
Back in January we let you know that Berries & Bowls, the “Superfood Cafe” would open its second location at 4961 Elm St. in Bethesda– the former home of Spring Mill Bread Co.
Signage is now up and construction is finishing up, as Berries & Bowls hopes to open its new location in the first half of August.
Papi’s Chicken & Grill has closed permanently in Damascus. The restaurant rebranded from “Peruvian Chicken & Grill” back in September of 2019.
Located at 26400 Ridge Rd., the restaurant offered Peruvian chicken, other Peruvian specialities like lomo saltado, and a variety of specialties that included gyros, tacos, lobster rolls, and more.

Wayback Burgers, a fast-casual burger chain based out of Connecticut, is coming to Montgomery County with a new location in Gaithersburg.
Construction on the restaurant begins today. It will be located at The Shops of Potomac Valley shopping center at 12121 Darnestown Rd. in the location that was formerly home to an AT&T store and a tanning salon before that.
When residents across the county put in their orders for $5 gyros at Big Greek Cafe on Wednesday, July 14th, they saw that the price had increased to $6– the first time the price of the Wednesday gyro special had increased in over a decade.
“Since 2009 we’ve held onto that price of $5 gyro. Unfortunately due to the rise in cost due to the current drastic increases, we can no longer sustain that price and we had to make the hard decision to raise the price by $1” Big Greek Cafe ownership told us.
A new shop that will feature “ice cream, acai bowls, dog treats, and more” will be coming to Germantown Town Center, taking over the location that was formerly home to Town Center Cleaners (next to Acqua Nails).
Temporary signage has gone up at the location stating that the shop will offer everything listed above. A neon sign is also up in the window that reads “100% Sweet.” As of now, we’re unsure if it’s referring to the new name of the location or if it’s describing the upcoming menu.
Last week we let you know that Fry Guy, a locally owned fried chicken, fish and waffle restaurant, is coming 7601 AirPark Rd Suite B in Gaithersburg, the former site of Penang Garden.
The owners tell us, “When it comes to our food, flavor is at the center! We have worked really hard to create relationships with distributors that only provide high quality products. While our bread and butter is chicken, fish, and waffles, we have several other items on our menu!“
Haagen Dazs will close its Bethesda Row location on July 31st, according to an employee at the shop.
The ice cream shop, which has been there for about a decade, will be replaced by a Chaia Tacos pop-up. Chaia currently has two locations in D.C. and will be bringing their vegan tacos to Bethesda Row.
