Urban Butcher has decided to “hit the pause button” according to a social media post made earlier today. The Downtown Silver Spring restaurant opened in 2013 and featured house-aged beef and craft charcuterie. When asked if this means the restaurant is permanently closing, Urban Butcher responded with “No, it means unfortunately we are closed for the time being, but we will keep you guys updated. Please keep supporting us by stopping by at El Sapo, where we have a wonderful outdoor space and delicious Mojitos. Thank you!”

Buena Vida in Silver Spring closing, TTT in its place
Mexican sit-down restaurant Buena Vida in downtown Silver Spring is closing. The restaurant will be taken over by Tacos, Tortas, and Tequilla, a fast-casual eatery located in the same building. Both restaurants are owned by Street Guys Hospitality.
Renovations Begin for site of Olney Crab House
The Olney Crab House has been confirmed to be coming to Hillcrest Center in Olney, and the first signs of the new restaurant have been put up.
Quickway, a Japanese quick service restaurant, will open its fifth MoCo location in Stone Mill Square, the shopping center that’s home to Korean Korner.
The regional chain now has restaurants in 25 different cities across the DMV.
UPDATE (1/13/21) We spoke with Site Realty after seeing a ‘For Lease’ sign back up in space at the 124 Plaza shopping center. They informed us Quizno’s will not be coming back.
The Quizno’s wrap was removed a few weeks back and replaced with the ‘For Lease’ sign.
This morning, Brew Belly shared some information via facebook post about an incident that occurred last night. According to the post, an unmasked customer was asked to adhere to Maryland’s face covering policy. This customer became aggressive and spat on a staff member who was working there. The owner of Brew Belly shared that the patron was arrested and banned from the business.
Brew Belly has chosen to not allow customers to eat inside, despite being allowed to operate at 50% capacity. As the owner wrote, this choice was made to prioritize employee safety even though they anticipate a decrease in business.
Teriyaki Express is now open in Gaithersburg. The locally-owned fast food restaurant offers grilled teriyaki combos (beef, chicken, shrimp, and fish) and sushi.
It is located at 405 N Frederick Avenue in the shopping center next to Ixtapalapa that is anchored by MegaMart.
New Grant Program Aimed at Helping Businesses to Reopen
The Montgomery County Council has passed legislation that creates a grant program designed to help local businesses comply with reopening requirements.
Cinco de Mayo, a Mexican restaurant and bar, will open on August 3rd.
The restaurant will be located at 640 Center Point Way, next to MOD Pizza, in the Kentlands.
UPDATE: Due to covid-related delays, Naz’s Halal Food Will now have it’s Grand Opening in Friday, August 21st.
Naz’s Halal Food will open its first location outside of New York, right here in MoCo!
