The Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) has released its first round of endorsements for the 2026 primary election, naming candidates for County Executive, County Council, and the Board of Education who will appear on the organization’s well-known Apple Ballot. The selections follow an extensive, months-long process led by educators across the county.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for freezing drizzle between 7pm tonight-1am Saturday east of US-15 & along the I-95 corridor. A light glaze of ice is expected for Washington, D.C., along with large portions of central, northern, and southern Maryland, and central and northern Virginia.

Maryland’s six casinos generated $158.8 million in gaming revenue in November 2025, a 0.4 percent increase compared to the same month in 2024, while statewide contributions to the state totaled $68.5 million, down 0.5 percent year over year.

Earlier this year, Montgomery County installed more than 200 No Turn on Red signs as part of the Safe Streets Act of 2023, known as MC Bill 11-23. The law required The Montgomery County Department of Transportation (MCDOT) to place these restrictions at designated traffic signals unless a safety risk is identified. (more…)

Not every community has an available measurement, and the timing of each report can lead to differences in what you’re seeing at home. Biennial report shows an average commute time of 33 minutes, 17 miles of new bike facilities added, and over 200 Right Turn on Red prohibition signs installed in urban core areas

The Montgomery County Planning Department presented the 2025 Travel Monitoring Report to the Montgomery County Planning Board at its meeting on December 4. The biennial report provides insight into how well the county is meeting its transportation goals, objectives, and metrics defined in Thrive Montgomery 2050, Montgomery County’s General Plan, and Functional Plans such as the Bicycle Master Plan and the Pedestrian Master Plan.


Montgomery County has seen multiple accidents across the region this morning as light snow and very cold temperatures created hazardous travel conditions.  MCFRS is warning drivers that the combination of snow and frigid pavement temperatures is making roads slick and icy, stating: “ATTENTION: SOME SNOW & VERY COLD TEMPERATURES WILL RESULT IN TREACHEROUS TRAVEL FOR THE FRIDAY MORNING COMMUTE… the combo of light snow and very cold temps may result in treacherous travel Friday morning.
