Montgomery County officials will hold a public update on the planned Diversion Center in Rockville on Wednesday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Leggett Executive Office Building auditorium, with a virtual option available. The facility, located on Seven Locks Road, will provide 24/7 behavioral health services to individuals in crisis as an alternative to emergency rooms and detention centers.
Since its closing in 2013, the absence of Roy’s Place has left a hole in the hearts of many current and former Montgomery County residents. According to the now-defunct Roy’s Place website, the restaurant first opened in Rockville in 1955, offering more than 200 sandwiches. After a couple of moves within Rockville, it relocated to 2 E. Diamond Ave. in Olde Towne Gaithersburg in 1971, where it became a local institution. (more…)
Maryland’s six casinos generated $151.5 million in revenue from slot machines and table games in September 2025, a 5% decline from September 2024, with state contributions totaling $64.9 million, down 10.7% year over year.
The Montgomery County Council will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 7, to receive the semi-annual report of the Planning Board, vote on spending affordability guidelines for the capital budget, and consider legislation requiring landlords to provide 14 days’ notice before evictions. The agenda also includes votes on bond authorizations, personnel regulations for displaced federal workers, committee appointments, and proclamations recognizing International Day of the Girl and National Farmer’s Day.
The bus loop at the Medical Center Metro Station will be closed on select Sundays through spring 2026 due to Metrorail construction, affecting Montgomery County Ride On Routes 34 and 46. During the closures, buses will be rerouted to stops along Rockville Pike, while other Ride On routes that do not operate on Sundays will not be impacted.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration will begin enhancing bike lanes on MD 190 (River Road) in Bethesda between Brookside Drive and Little Falls Parkway on Wednesday, October 8, with work expected to finish by the end of the month, weather permitting. Improvements include new pavement markings, green paint, and flex-post delineators to improve visibility and safety, with weekday single-lane closures scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until completion.
