Kian Dhawan, a student at Montgomery Blair High School, earned a gold medal at the 2025 USA Biolympiad National Finals held at Harvard University, placing him among the top four students who will represent the United States at the International Biology Olympiad in the Philippines. A returning silver medalist, Kian is deeply involved in science competitions and research and is currently conducting cancer biology research at the University of Maryland. (more…)


On July 17, the Montgomery County Council’s Education and Culture Committee will receive a briefing on MCPS academic performance and review grading policy changes, while the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee will review legislation related to internet access service procurement and retirement system eligibility. The discussions will cover the transition to Maryland State Report Card data, updates to grading regulations, and proposed bills affecting County contracting and employee retirement groups.

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is offering free back-to-school vaccinations for children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade who live in the County and are missing required immunizations. Vaccines are available by appointment at multiple clinic locations through the end of September to help students meet state vaccination requirements for the 2025–2026 school year. (more…)

A 24-year-old from Brooklyn, NY was sentenced in Montgomery County Circuit Court to 10 years in prison, with all but 26 months suspended, for involvement in a theft scheme targeting elderly victims in Bethesda, after pleading guilty to conspiracy and attempted theft charges.
