“All our piercings are performed by licensed Nurses only—as they should be. After all, piercing is a medical procedure. All our earrings are hypoallergenic. Meaning: premium metals only. Our jewelry is made of 14K solid gold, gold vermeil, gold plating over sterling silver, and sterling silver. Meet the Founder, Louisa Serene Schneider: “An experienced Board Member with a history of working in the financial services industry. Skilled in Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital, Asset Management, Equities, and Capital Markets. Louisa observed first-hand that products and services that were labeled “girly” weren’t paid much attention and especially, in the ear piercing industry the choices were limited to either an impersonal experience at the mall and tattoo parlors or an intimidating one at a doctor’s office. As a mom, she wanted only the best for her kids. Which began her search for a fun, celebratory and safe ear piercing experience for everyone that can also be affordable. And when Louisa didn’t find one she founded one. Welcome to Rowan, where we offer safe and celebratory piercings for all.

Per the ice cream shop, “Sarah’s Handmade was created by a Bethesda mother-daughter team, Sarah and Annie Park. When Sarah retired in 2018, she suddenly found herself with time to indulge in her old hobbies. She began to experiment and create original ice cream recipes for her family, friends, and neighbors, fit for each occasion. Soon enough, she was receiving calls and orders from strangers for her handmade ice cream! With strong enthusiasm from friends and wide support from neighbors, Sarah and Annie decided to bring the homemade flavors to a River Road storefront in Bethesda. To stay true to Sarah’s commitment to the highest quality ice cream that she would “feel proud feeding my family,” Sarah uses only the best, local-whenever-possible ingredients and sticks to her small-batch, all-natural recipes.”

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, “in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable Sharon Burrell, a jury has convicted defendant, Kevin Orihuela, 22, of Rockville, on charges of Homicide by Motor Vehicle while Under the Influence of Alcohol and Gross Negligent Manslaughter by Motor Vehicle for causing the crash that killed 62-year-old Noel Powell of Germantown. The jury reached its verdict late yesterday afternoon, October 5th, 2023. Orihuela faces up to 15 years in prison. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for December 15th, 2023.

The fatal crash occurred on Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at Josiah Henson Pkwy and Randolph Rd, at the intersection of Josiah Henson with the exit ramp from route 355 at approximately 4:12 p.m.  The defendant, Orihuela, had gone to brunch at a restaurant in the Pike and Rose center with a large group of friends to celebrate one of their 21st birthdays, where they ordered “bottomless mimosas.”  Based on a review of surveillance video, the defendant drank 11 mimosas over the course of one hour and 55 minutes (1:06 pm to 3:01 pm).  The video depicts the defendant consistently sitting with his head on the table and head in his hands in the minutes before he leaves.  He then got into his Audi A4, left Pike and Rose via the Towne Road exit, turned right onto Josiah Henson, and quickly accelerated his Audi toward the intersection with the ramp from route 355.  The event data recorder from his vehicle showed that as he approached that intersection, he was accelerating at one hundred percent of his vehicle’s capability and reached a speed of 70 miles per hour.  The speed limit on that road is 40 mph.

Access to the outdoor dining area/pier will be via two gangways attached to the existing boardwalk. The new structure projects 10’-2” from the boardwalk and will be 12 feet tall from the finished floor. Gaithersburg Planning Staff supports the proposal for a dining pier in the Rio Washingtonian Lake, finding it in compliance with the approved sketch plan and Schematic Development Plan SDP- 9462-2023. “The dining pier will provide additional outdoor seating for Copper Canyon and will enhance the use of lake. There remains adequate parking for the proposed commercial addition and all applicable development standards have been met.” No timeframe for the pier has been announced.
