In December we let you know that the founder of Sweet Frog, Derek Cha, will be bringing his take on the Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich to MoCo with Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken. The Wheaton location is now open at 2533 Ennals Ave in Wheaton, in the spot that was formerly home to El Pollo Kiki Riki. Construction is ongoing at the Rockville restaurant, located in the 1,600 sf location that was home to El Mexicano at 10050 Darnestown Road, between Pholuscious and Tropical Smoothie Cafe in the Travilah Square shopping center.

Per our previous report: In collaboration with partner, Mike Kim, the pair visited many successful Nashville-style chicken restaurants in LA, Nashville, and San Francisco, that inspired them develop their “secret chicken recipe to have the most juicy and crispy sandwich.”

Not a fan of too much spice? You’re able to choose the spice level of the fried chicken (Plain<Mild<Medium<Hot<Angry Hot). In addition to the hot chicken sandwiches, known as “Chicken Sando”, the small menu consists of chicken fingers, chicken & waffles, Korean Chicken Nuggets, loaded fries, and salad with chicken breast. Sides include cider slaw, waffle fries, and fried okra.

Back in December, after a little over a year of the property remaining vacant, H&R Retail listed Holy Cross Health as the new occupant of the space formerly occupied by Flower Child.

Construction has now started at the upcoming urgent care center.

Flower Child closed its Rockville location at 10072 Darnestown Road in the Travilah Square Shopping Center when the pandemic shut down indoor dining back in March of 2020 and made the decision to close permanently a few months later.

Holy Cross Health is an Urgent Care center that will be operated by Holy Cross, a member of Trinity Health.

Holy Cross Urgent Care gives patients nearby access to convenient care for non life-threatening medical issues after hours or when they cannot schedule an appointment with their family physician. Patients can walk in without an appointment, see one of our experienced physicians for everything from minor injuries and rashes to cuts and respiratory infections, and walk out feeling better.

“Holy Cross Urgent Care provides you and your loved ones with a wide range of urgent health care services, physical exams and more to keep you at your healthy best.”

The following services are offered on a walk-in basis at Holy Cross Urgent Care Centers:

  • Care for Injuries
  • Digital X-Rays
  • EKGs
  • Evaluation of Tick Bites (Lyme Disease)
  • Flu Shots
  • Immunizations and Vaccinations
  • Laboratory Services
  • Nebulizer Treatments
  • Pediatric Care
  • Physical Exams for School Sports and Camp
  • Treatment for Common Medical Concerns
  • Work-Related Injuries
We have not been given an expected opening date for Holy Cross Health. The Travilah Square Shopping Center is also bringing in Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken.

The founder of Sweet Frog, Derek Cha, is bringing his take on the Nashville-style hot chicken sandwich to MoCo.

The restaurant will be located in the Travilah Square Shopping Center (the shopping center is anchored by Trader Joe’s) in Rockville, between Pholuscious and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, in the 1,600 sf location that was home to El Mexicano at 10050 Darnestown Road, per H&R Retail.

In collaboration with partner, Mike Kim, the pair visited many successful Nashville-style chicken restaurants in LA, Nashville, and San Francisco, that inspired them develop their “secret chicken recipe to have the most juicy and crispy sandwich.”

Cafe Rio is holding the Grand Opening for their Rockville location (10062 Darnestown Rd.) on Wednesday, June 27th! To celebrate, they’ll be giving a free meal (including drink) to the first 300 people in line. The store opens at 10:30am, but they suspect people will be lined up well before then. Cafe Rio is a little different than most Mexican fast-casual restaurants because they don’t have/use freezers or microwaves. Everything is brought in fresh or made in the restaurant.

In addition to the 300 free meals on opening day, this location will be participating in “Military Monday”, which gives active duty members of the military 50% off on Mondays and 25% on any other day with military ID. We were told the official Cafe Rio app offers great deals on a daily basis that includes great deals/offers multiple times a week. They’ll also be making a $2500 donation to Montgomery County Public Schools!

Flower Child is coming to the Travilah Square Shopping Center (10016 Darnestown Rd Suite 10072 Rockville, MD 20850) this summer!

Flower Child is the latest fast-casual health food concept from Fox Restaurant Concepts, the Arizona-based group that also owns True Food Kitchen.

The menu includes build-your-own plates, sandwiches, salads and wraps using organic, sustainable and GMO-free ingredients. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options and desserts are dairy and gluten-free.

Orders are taken at the counter and customers are given a number. The food is then delivered when it’s ready.
