The investigation by detectives has revealed that at approximately 7:54 p.m., the three suspects entered the store, stole a large amount of merchandise and left the scene. The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male, in his twenties or thirties, with black short hair, wearing a black Jordan hat, a black mask, a plaid long sleeved-bottom shirt, blue jeans and black/white Nike tennis shoes. The second suspect is described as a Hispanic female, in her twenties or thirties, with long blue hair, carrying a brown purse and wearing a plaid dress and gray tennis shoes.


Chavez is approximately 5-feet tall and weighs 115 pounds. She has short black hair and brown eyes. It is unknown what she was last seen wearing. She may be traveling with missing teen Elia Rosado Gamez. Police and family are concerned for her welfare.

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested 19-year-old Hector Zelaya Reyes with an armed robbery that occurred on Friday, February 3, 2023, in the 14100 block of Weeping Willow Drive in Aspen Hill.  At approximately 1:10 p.m., 4th  District officers responded to the location for the report of an armed robbery.

The investigation by detectives has revealed that the victim, a ride share driver, picked up a passenger, later identified as Zelaya Reyes, in the 12900 block of Connecticut Ave. and drove him to the 14100 block of Weeping Willow Drive. Upon arrival, Zelaya Reyes asked the victim for change, displayed a black handgun and demanded money. The victim handed over an undisclosed amount of money to Zelaya Reyes, who then exited the vehicle and left the scene.  Through the investigation, detectives identified Zelaya Reyes as the suspect.


On Friday, March 10, 2023, two victims parked their vehicles at the location. While the victims were inside the fitness center, the suspects forced entry into their vehicles. The suspects stole one of the victim’s personal belongings, including credit cards, from one of the vehicles. Several fraudulent transactions were then made with the stolen credit cards.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call for a chimney fire on Rippling Brook Drive in Aspen Hill at approximately 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer, a neighbor called 911 to report a chimney fire and crews arrived to fire showing from the roof and attic of the home. The fire started in the attic of the home and is believed to electrical in nature. The sole occupant of the home was able to escape without injury, but there was approximately $275k in damage.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) were called to the scene of a fire on the 14400 block of Big Bear Court, off of Bel Pre Road and Layhill Rd, in what is considered Aspen Hill/Silver Spring on Saturday morning.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer in one of two basement apartments (unoccupied at the time of the fire) of a two-story single family home. Units were able to quickly extinguish the fire after arriving and it is believed that the cause likely involved the dishwasher that was located in the basement kitchen. It extended to nearby cabinets and melted the water line of an unattended ‘de facto’ sprinkler, according to Piringer. Shania Adams was last seen on Friday, March 10, 2023, at approximately 4:15 p.m., in the 3500 block of Pear Tree Ct. Adams is approximately 5-feet, 2-inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair styled in a ponytail. She was last seen a pink bonnet, a black and grey puffy coat, a black t-shirt, black leggings and green Crocs with a bow. Police and family are concerned about her welfare.

Tuesday Morning, an off-price retailer of home goods and décor, will close both Montgomery County locations– Aspen Hill (13832 Georgia Avenue in the Northgate shopping center) and Rockville (1616 East Jefferson St. #12B in Congressionak Plaza). According to a Business Insider report, “the chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday. As part of the process, the retailer wants to close 265 stores across the US, or more than half of all of its stores, according to a document filed in bankruptcy court in Northern Texas.” Specific closing information for each location to come soon.

This comes a few months after the company announced that it has entered into an agreement to secure $32 million in convertible debt financing from a special purpose vehicle (“SPV”) formed by Retail Ecommerce Ventures LLC (“REV”), the owner of a diverse portfolio of consumer brands that includes Pier 1 Imports (“Pier 1”), Linens ‘n Things, Stein Mart, Modell’s Sporting Goods, and Ayon Capital, LLC (“Ayon”).


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police- Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred on Sunday, February 5, 2023, in the area of Georgia Avenue and Hewitt Avenue.

At approximately 7:37 p.m., officers from the 4th District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area for the report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.The preliminary investigation has determined that the pedestrian was crossing the 13600 block of Georgia Avenue when she was struck by a blue 2002 Ford Taurus traveling northbound.  The driver remained on scene. The female pedestrian, identified as 22-year-old, Ruth Noemi Bermudez-Chavez, was pronounced dead at the scene.  This is an active and ongoing investigation. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this collision.
