Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a report of “someone burning clothes on the top floor” of the Glenmont Metro Parking garage at approximately 11am on Wednesday morning.

According to MCFRS Assistant Chief David Pazos, Metro employees were able to extinguish the burning clothes on the top floor of the garage. There were no injuries and no extension of the fire. “Metro Police has taken over the scene while the fire department units go in-service.” No details currently available on why the fire was started. Featured photo courtesy of Google Maps.


Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a call on the 12200 block of Centerhill St in Silver Spring on Friday, August 4, for a report of a fire at a two-story duplex with one person trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that every occupant made it out of the homes safely.

The fire displaced eight residents, which included five adults, and three children from two residential homes (duplex). Red Cross has supplied immediate assistance while renovations are occurring. How the fire occurred is still under investigation. Yesterday, units from fs718 (Glenmont) are  canvassing the Glenmont Forest neighborhood in the area of the 12200 block of Centerhill St,  going door-to-door and checking/installing smoke alarms. They are also available yo answer any questions residents have on the fire.


Per Montgomery County Police: “MCPD 4th District officers are on scene of an officer involved shooting in the 4300 block of Havard Street. The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division has been notified and are enroute. The scene is secured and there is not a current threat to the community.”

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer tweeted that MCFRS “assisted injured persons (from assault) found in several nearby locations within close proximity, @MCFRS_EMIHS transported at least 4 patients to local hospitals.”

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed robbery of a Dollar City and More that occurred on Thursday, June 8, 2023. Detectives have released surveillance photos of the suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

The initial investigation has revealed that at approximately 9:25 a.m., an unknown suspect entered the store in the 12300 block of Georgia Avenue and attempted to purchase several items with counterfeit money. When the employee told the suspect that she would not accept the counterfeit money, the suspect became angry and walked to the back of the store. The suspect then removed a package of steak knives from the shelf and returned to the front of the store. Pointing the knives at the employee, the suspect demanded money and the victim’s personal property. The employee complied with the suspect’s demands and the suspect left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash and property.


Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred on Sunday, May 21, 2023, on Veirs Mill Rd. At approximately 5:04 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Veirs Mill Rd. and Newport Mill Rd., for the report of a pedestrian struck.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that an adult male was struck by the driver of a dark blue 2007 Toyota Rav4, as it was traveling eastbound on Veirs Mill Rd. The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The decedent has been identified as 46-year-old Hernan Zuasnabar Cunyas, of Silver Spring.


Montgomery County Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred this morning in Wheaton-Glenmont. According to MCPD, “At approximately 5:04 a.m., 4th District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the area of Veirs Mill Rd. and Newport Mill Rd., for the report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian.

For reasons still under investigation, an adult male victim was struck by blue Toyota RAV4, on Veirs Mill Rd.  The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The driver of the striking vehicle remained on scene.


He is no stranger to winning a big Lottery prize, although it’s been a long time. He told Lottery officials that he played Powerball for the first time 30 years ago in Washington D.C. and won $100,000. His Montgomery County Lottery retailer is celebrating, too. The Glenmont Sunoco at 12321 Georgia Avenue will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery for its role in selling a $50,000-winning Pick 5 ticket.
