Work continues on the Takoma Park Library and Community Center Redevelopment Project. Much of the work has moved indoors and is minimally affected by the snow and ice, but some work continues outdoors. The City of Takoma Park has shared some recent advances in the project:
Earlier today (Friday, February 21st), the Montgomery County Police Department’s (MCPD) 4th District officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 300 block of Hannes Street in Silver Spring.
According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office, today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, Judge Terrence McGann sentenced Elvin Guzman-Machado, 20, of Boyds, to life in prison plus 40 consecutive years for his involvement in the 2022 MS-13 gang-related murder of 19-year-old Willians Anderson Alberto Cruz and for firing at three additional victims, two of whom were struck and survived. On February 18, at approximately 9:19 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 6900 block of New Hampshire Avenue for the report of a strong-arm robbery that occurred at 7-eleven.
Montgomery County government has announced the speaker lineup for the 13th Annual Montgomery County Energy Summit, taking place on April 8 and 9 at the Silver Spring Civic Building, featuring opening remarks from County Executive Marc Elrich and a keynote address by architect and sustainability expert Carl Elefante. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Javier Reyes, 23, of Silver Spring was sentenced to 50 years in prison suspending all but 30 to serve and five years of supervised probation upon release. Reyes was convicted by a jury in December on charges of second-degree felony murder and use of a handgun in a crime of violence for the death of 20-year-old Walter Woods of Takoma Park. (more…)
Earlier tonight, a specialized 4D team from the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) made a significant discovery while conducting operations to combat criminal activities in the district. The team located a stolen vehicle that had been reported missing from the Rockville area on January 10th.
