Per MCPD: Detectives have arrested and charged 30-year-old Kevin Smith, unknown address, with the armed carjacking on White Oak Vista Ct. and the armed robbery of the Popeyes on Lockwood Dr. that occurred on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Through the investigation, detectives identified Smith as the second suspect involved in the armed carjacking and armed robbery of the Popeyes. On November 27, 2022, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Smith, charging him with armed carjacking and robbery related charges.
On November 30, 2022, officers located Smith in a vehicle and attempted to arrest him in the area of Castle Blvd. and Briggs Chaney Rd. Smith exited the vehicle and ran away towards the Sport Chevrolet dealership in the 3000 block of Automobile Blvd., where he hid a black fanny pack under a vehicle.
One of the latest upcoming Dunkin’ locations is currently under construction at the Layhill Center (14328 Layhill Rd) in Silver Spring. The new location, which will have a drive-thru, will be located next to Sole D’Italia, in the space that was formerly home to Truist and BB&T Bank.
Since Inspire Brands acquired Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins in late 2020 for $11.3 billion, the company has been opening in former bank locations that allow for easy installation of a drive-thru window. Dunkin has also aimed for non-traditional development that includes opening in airports and on college campuses, including the University of Maryland.

Per the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Maryland: – A federal grand jury has returned a superseding indictment adding two new defendants to the nine defendants previously charged in relation to a Maryland and California unemployment insurance scheme. The superseding indictment charges the defendants with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and stealing a post office key. Tacos Don Perez will be taking over the location that was home to K-Town Bistro at 3784 Howard Ave in Kensington for the last 12 years. Tacos Don Perez took over in early November and plan to open to the public late Spring 2023 (possibly sooner) with a taqueria quick-service concept. Photos of the food available below.
Tacos Don Perez started off as a small, family-run catering business back in 2017. It continued that way until may 2020, when it became a once-a-week home-based pop-up when the family was left without work due to Covid-19. The pop-up quickly gained support from the local community, as Tacos Don Perez sold out in a matter of hours every single week. With the support of their customers, the family was able to buy and custom build their own food truck, which is located in the Glenmont shopping center (12321 Georgia Ave). In March 2022 the family opened what they’ve referred to as “the biggest food trailer in Montgomery County” in the same Glenmont location.
Per MCPD: On Friday, September 9, 2022, Kenneth Shawn Purvis entered a Foot Locker store in the 8600 block of Colesville Rd. asked to try on a pair of shoes and stated he wanted to purchase them. When Purvis approached the counter, he appeared to attempt to use his phone to pay with a mobile app and then took cash out of his pocket. He then grabbed a pair of scissors that were on the counter, walked behind the counter and demanded that the employee get out of his way.
The employee complied with his demands. Purvis then took the sneakers from the clerk, removed his shoes and put on the new sneakers. Upon attempting to exit the store, the store manager confronted him. Purvis then brandished the scissors and threatened her before leaving the store. Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Investigative Section are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a missing 64-year-old man from Silver Spring. Peter Keith Henderson was last seen on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, in the 3000 block of Shepperton Ter.
Henderson is approximately 6-feet, 1-inch tall and weighs 280 pounds. He has brown eyes and grey and black hair. It is unknown what he was last seen wearing. He may be driving a black Cadillac SRX bearing Pennsylvania license plate LLF7227. Police and family are concerned for his welfare.
Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, December 2, 2022.
At approximately 3:05 a.m., 2nd District officers responded to the parking lot of the Summit Hills Apartment complex, in the 8500 block of 16th St., for the report of a shooting that just occurred. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, 29-year-old Nathaniel Potts, of Silver Spring, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he was pronounced dead.
According to MCPD, the adult male victim that was shot early this morning in Silver Spring has been pronounced deceased and the incident is now being investigated as a homicide. Per MCPD: “On Friday, December 2, 2022, at approximately 3:05 a.m., 2nd District officers and Montgomery County Fire Rescue personnel responded to the 8500 block of 16th St. for the report of a shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries. The suspect has not been apprehended. At this time, investigators believe that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.”
