Cielo Rojo, a family owned “fine-casual” Mexican restaurant, opened in the heart of Takoma Park at the start of 2019. Owners David Perez and Carolina McCandless first met in 2012 at Gracias Madre, a vegan Mexican restaurant in San Francisco, and now they’re bringing their version of San Fransisco Mission-style burritos to Takoma Park.

San Pancho plans to open this fall in the space that is currently home to Cielo Rojo (7056 Carroll Ave), while Cielo Rojo moves down the street to a larger space. It is distinguished from other burritos by its large size and inclusion of rice and other ingredients, and became popular when major chains like Chipotle, Qdoba, and more, began offering their versions across the county.
