The Takoma Park Street Festival will take place Sunday, October 2, from 10am-5pm on Carroll Avenue in Takoma Park. Per Takoma Park Police: Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrests of Anthony Dunn, 54, of Adelphi, Maryland, for stolen auto, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and open criminal warrants from Takoma Park for burglary, and the arrest of Hugh M. Dennis, Jr. 59, of Washington, DC, for possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) Crack Cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of CDS paraphernalia.

On September 19, 2022, at approximately 7:48 am, a Takoma Park Police officer was in the 1000 block of Larch Avenue when he received a stolen vehicle hit on his mobile License Plate Reader (LPR) from a parked vehicle.  A verification was made that the vehicle had been stolen from Prince George’s County, Maryland.  The officer observed an individual, later identified as Dunn, sleeping in the driver’s seat.  After identifying Dunn, it was also revealed that he had several open criminal warrants through Takoma ParkPolice for burglary.  The stolen vehicle was impounded and several items of evidentiary value were found, including burglary tools. Dunn was arrested, charged accordingly and transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit.


In the process of clearing the site for the Takoma Maryland Library reconstruction project, the Philadelphia & Maple Ave Capital Bikeshare Station (#32010) will be temporarily removed and placed into storage for the duration of the construction. The station will be removed on Wednesday, October 5.

City and County staff identified a number of potential alternative locations, both near the Community Center and elsewhere in the community. However, none met the engineering, safety, or connectivity criteria for the Capital Bikeshare program.


Takoma Park Elementary School, located at 7511 Holly Avenue in Takoma Park, was evacuated after a report of odor and haze that followed a “boiler noise”, which has been explained as likely stemming from an outdoor transformer issue, according to MCFRS PIO Pete Piringer. All students and staff were evacuated and accounted for and there were no injuries sustained due to the incident. The school will send a Connect-ED message to the community after the school day ends.

Per Takoma Park Police: On September 5, at approximately 9:53 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the intersection of Hammond Avenue and Anne Street for the report of an armed robbery.

The victim was walking towards University Boulevard on Anne Street when he was approached by two male suspects who pushed him to the ground and demanded property.  The victim observed both suspects pointing handguns at him and ordering him not to look at them.  The victim complied and gave the suspects his property.  The two suspects fled south westbound on Anne Street to a waiting black 4-door sedan (unknown tags) that fled north westbound on Kennewick Avenue toward Lockney Avenue.

Per Takoma Park Police: On August 26, at approximately 9:40 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 1300 block of University Blvd. East (7-11) for the report of a stolen auto  The outstanding stolen vehicle is described as a bronze 2020 Toyota Sienna, MD Tag #1EB5247.

The suspect is described as an unknown race male, slim build and a goatee, last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and dark colored pants.  He fled in the stolen vehicle heading eastbound on University Blvd. towards Riggs Road.  Case #220037133


Popular Takoma Park restaurant Republic, located at 6939 Laurel Ave, has announced that it will be closing its doors on September 4th, after operating for a decade at the location. The full statement can be seen below:

The last 2 ½ years of the pandemic have been merciless, unforgiving, and ultimately a hardship from which we could not recover. At the same time, our lease is set to expire and we have been unable to come to an agreement with the landlord on how to move forward.


Adventist HealthCare Urgent Care, located at 7600 Carroll Ave in Takoma Park, will close permanently to patients on August 19th at 5pm. The health care facility is rerouting anyone in need of urgent care following this date to Patriot Urgent Care in Laurel and White Oak Medical Center in White Oak. According to Adventist HealthCare, “a new Primary Care office will open in September nearby.” It will be located at 7610 Carroll Ave, Suite 410 in Takoma Park. A specific opening date has not yet been provided.
