Chief Antonio DeVaul of the Takoma Park Police Department announced the charging of a 13-year-old girl from Takoma Park for ‘Threats of Mass Violence and Telephone Misuse.’

Per the press release: On July 6, 2022, at approximately 10:04 am, Takoma Park Police responded to Takoma Park Middle School (7611 Piney Branch Road) for a report of threats made via telephone voicemail regarding mass violence – a school shooting. Summer school was in session, so out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while being searched by officers for the safety of the students and staff. After clearing the school, the lockdown was lifted and summer school resumed.

Per Prince George’s County Police: Prince George’s County Police detectives charged a man for vandalizing two public libraries in the county. These incidents occurred at the Greenbelt Branch Library and the New Carrollton Branch Library. The suspect is 30-year-old Charles Sutherland of Takoma Park.

The preliminary investigation revealed Sutherland spray-painted the word “groomer” on the exteriors of both buildings. The vandalism at the Greenbelt location occurred on June 4, 2022, and on June 9, 2022, at the branch in New Carrollton. The PGPD assumed the investigation into these incidents on June 15, 2022.


Over the last two months, the Takoma Park Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division has been actively investigating a number of residential burglaries that involved the victims’ vehicles being stolen. On Monday, June 13th the Takoma Park Police Department sent out the following press release:

On today’s date, through investigative means, detectives recovered several of the stolen vehicles with the assistance of the DC Metropolitan Police Department in the District of Columbia.  Further investigation developed a person of interest who was subsequently located and charged with possession of the stolen vehicles and residential burglary.

The performers and artwork were featured in the Takoma Park Arts cultural series, and they appear now on vinyl wraps that have been installed on glass panels at three new local bus shelters. The public art project is beautifying bus shelters and promoting the Takoma Park Arts series, which includes free City-funded art exhibitions, concerts, poetry readings, film screenings, theater, and other events at the Takoma Park Community Center at 7500 Maple Avenue.


Brazilian Bakery at 7639 New Hampshire Ave in Takoma Park has closed, according to a message on the store’s Instagram page.  “We are heartbroken to announce that yesterday was our last day in operation. 💔 We are so thankful for this community and all of your love and support. We will always remember you. We are looking forward to other future endeavors and hope to see you all in the future.” The original location at 13655 Georgia Ave in Aspen Hill remains open.
