A Tale of Three Cities: Rockville’s Sister Cities

Many of us have spent a warm summer evening sampling Rockville Town Square’s various eats or tossing a football at Woodley Gardens Park. Rockville is a uniquely American city, full of diverse cultural touches and flavors. At every different corner, you might find someone who speaks a different language, or perhaps a new local restaurant that has opened up to share another unique iteration of the countless cuisines that are already represented in the area.

Best MoCo Spots for Fall Foliage

Whether it’s the taste of a warm pumpkin-flavored latte, the cool breeze of a crisp fall morning, or the yellow glow of the sun on a tall birch tree, autumn is often a contender for MoCo residents’ favorite season (however short it may be). Many locals are looking forward to combining all the best parts of fall and enjoying the foliage outdoors.

Back in December of 2019, we shared that Metro would soon allow users to load SmartTrip funding onto their iPhones and Apple Watches. This morning, we learned that Apple users are now able to use their devices to pay for their fare on Metrorail, Metrobus, and all regional buses that accept SmartTrip cards. Users have the option to load funds from a pre-existing SmartTrip Card into their Apple Wallet or they can purchase a new digital card.

However, as reported by NBC Washington, this feature only works with newer devices– users must have an iPhone 8 or newer or an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer.

Did you know that you can take a train from Rockville to Chicago without switching lines?

Amtrak’s Capitol Limited starts its route in DC’s Union Station and then has stops in Rockville, Harper’s Ferry, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and finally ends in Chicago.  The ride from Rockville to Chicago takes a little over 17 hours.

Montgomery Parks and Little Bennett Campground (located in Clarksburg) now have you covered…literally. They have added cabins that can accommodate groups of four to six people.

Each cabin includes running water, an in-cabin bathroom with shower, coffee maker, refrigerator, charcoal grill, heat & air conditioning, and TV for playing DVDs. That’s my kind of camping!

J’amie Kirlew, the person who was able to snap the photos, captioned them with “‪A couple is casually sitting in lawn chairs on 270 between W. Montgomery & Falls drinking wine. We had to turn around and around to capture these pics.‬”

It didn’t take long after we shared the photos for one of the people in them to be tagged. I was able to ask her a few questions and get to the bottom of this local mystery.
