The new regulation will reinstate the mask mandate after seven straight days of “substantial transmission”, which is 50 or above cases per 100,000 residents.

The mask mandate would go back into effect on Tuesday, November 9.  As of Tuesday, there have been five consecutive days where the case rate has been above 50. The seventh consecutive day would technically be November 5, but there is a four-day grace period to allow numbers to be confirmed with CDC data.


Personal-finance website WalletHub released its report on “2021’s Safest States in America.”

Per WalletHub, “With June being National Safety Month and 375,000 Americans having died from COVID-19 in 2020, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2021’s Safest States in America.”


David L. Williams, of Gaithersburg, was given a life sentence today, with all but 45 years suspended. Williams pleaded guilty to first-degree rape on Oct. 4, stemming  from an incident that occurred on the morning of October 6, 2017.

According to the State’s Attorney’s Office, “Williams targeted a woman as she waited at the bus stop along Watkins Mill Rd. near Travis Ln. in Gaithersburg. He threw her down an embankment behind the bus stop, forced cocaine into her mouth and brutally raped and beat her, then stole her belongings leaving her there unconscious and naked.”


Underground Pizza Company is coming to 8235 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring (formerly Olazzo) later this year. Owner Evan Weinstein, a concert promoter and founder of Steez Promo, started Underground Pizza Company (UPC) last year after concert venues in the area closed their doors due to the pandemic.

Underground Pizza started selling their Detroit-style pizzas at local “pop-up” events that were marketed through social media. Costumers would pre-order pizzas and then meet at a designated location at specific times to pick up their order.


Per Montgomery College:

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced $10 million in FY2021 Citizenship and Integration Grant Program awards to 40 public and private non-profit organizations across the country that prepare lawful permanent residents (LPRs) for naturalization. Montgomery College, one of only two recipients in Maryland, was awarded a $250,000 grant.


Curry Place at 385 Muddy Branch Rd in Gaithersburg has permanently closed. Grocery store India Bazaar, which is located next door at 383 Muddy Branch Rd, will be expanding into the space formerly occupied by the restaurant.

The Curry Place locations at 12951 Wisteria Dr in Germantown and 11229 New Hampshire Ave in White Oak are still open. The restaurant said they don’t have plans at this time to open another location in Gaithersburg.
