The Town of Kensington’s Inaugural Juneteenth Celebration will be taking place June 18, 2022 from 12:00-4p.m., in St. Paul Park, with a rain date of June 19th. Like most Americans, Jamie Boston thought he knew what was in the Emancipation Proclamation. When he sat down with his young daughters to read it all the way through–in preparation for his family’s Juneteenth celebration last year–the retired combat veteran and U.S. Army JAG found an entirely different document than he expected.


The investigation by detectives determined that the two suspects entered the backyard of the residence by opening the unlocked wooden gate. The suspects then gained entry into the residence through the unlocked back door.

The Black male suspect is approximately 20 – 30-years-old, 5-feet, 7-inches tall and thin build. He was seen wearing a royal blue hoodie, royal blue sweatpants, with a white stripe down the side and white and blue sneakers.


The Sierra Club Montgomery County Group announced Tuesday that they would be endorsing David Blair for Montgomery County Executive. The Sierra Club is an environmental protection and advocacy group, which has local chapters throughout all 50 states.  According to their website, “the Montgomery County Maryland Group focuses on local issues, including improving public transit, maintaining clean water sources, supporting and monitoring the county’s Climate Protection Plan, and endorsing and supporting green candidates.”  The Sierra Club said that Blair will be a strong and effective leader, and that he has an appealing environmental platform. In a press release, the Sierra Club said, “we understand that our endorsement of Mr. Blair will be met with surprise and even frustration by some. Montgomery County Sierra Club, though, believes that Mr. Blair is the best candidate overall to continue and expand real environmental progress in our County.”


Update: The indoor portion/lobby of Starbucks has reopened but the drive-thru remains closed at this time.

Monday, April 18: The Starbucks at 160 Kentlands Blvd in Gaithersburg is temporarily closed. We were told by a representative from the store that there was an issue with their computers and registers, and that they hope to be open tomorrow.

Starbucks was previously located at 121 Market St. in the Kentlands, which will soon be home to Java Nation. No opening date for Java Nation has been announced.


Last month we let you know that Korean corn dog restaurant “Kong Dog” is set to open up soon at the Glenmont Shopping Center (12335-H Georgia Avenue). Now, the company has announced via Instagram that it will be opening this week.

The soft opening will be taking place on Wednesday, April 6th and Thursday, April 7th. During the soft opening, 200 corn dogs will be given away each day between 3pm-6pm.

Lapu Lapu, the sister restaurant of popular Rockville/North Bethesda/Kensington restaurant Kuya Ja’s Lechin Belly, is coming soon to the Kentlands.

The new restaurant will be taking over the 325 square foot storefront that was formerly home to Tex-Mex restaurant Peppers, located next to Vasili’s. It will specialize in breakfast sandwiches.

According to a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, Hook & Reel at 11006 L-10 Veirs Mill Rd in Wheaton will be officially opening on Tuesday, March 15.  The restaurant held a soft opening on Sunday, March 13 and according to a representative from the Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village location, will hold another soft opening on Monday.

The restaurant is located between Party City and the old Bar Louie.
