Aspen Hill Double Shooting Seriously Injures Two People

Shortly after 11:15PM Tuesday, Montgomery County 4th District Police Officers and Fire Rescue personnel responded to a reported shooting in an apartment building on Pear Tree Court in Aspen Hill.

While responders were headed to Pear Tree Court, they were flagged down for another person shot in the North Gate Local Park on Connecticut Avenue between Grand Pre Road and Peppertree Lane. Responders treated the victim in the Park and the originally reported victim in the apartments.

Both victims were transported with serious injuries. Police were working to sort out further details; several people who witnessed the shooting were not cooperative with Police.

The shooting investigation is being handled by the Montgomery County Police 4th District Investigative Section. Investigators can be reached at 240-773-5530 or 866-411-TIPS.

The initial stages of the investigation closed Connecticut Avenue between Bell Pre Road and Grand Pre Road, but those lanes have since reopened.

Back in February of 2019, Mezeh Mediterranean Grill closed its Wheaton Mall location and reported on its website that it will be relocating to the Aspen Hill shopping center.

The would-be Aspen Hill location has been removed from the Mezeh website, but we spoke with a representative from the shopping center who told us the two sides still hope to reach an agreement soon.

The Maryland based chain opened their first store in Annapolis in 2013. The fast casual eatery offers rice and salad bowls with a variety of Mediterranean meats, spices, sauces and toppings.

Their other MoCo location can be found in Downtown Crown (Gaithersburg) and a Germantown location is coming soon.

Good news for anyone who missed the recently closed GameStop in the Aspen Hill shopping center. We’re told the world’s largest video game retail destination will be back and hopes to open by February 1st.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe will also be taking the place of the old My Eye Dr. location, which has recently moved within the shopping center.

The cafe offers more than just smoothies as the menu contains flatbreads, wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches, bowls, breakfast, and a lot more.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe has recently made a lot of moves in the county, opening on Elm Street in Bethesda, in the Gaithersburg Square Shopping Center in Gaithersburg, the Travilah Square Shopping Center (10052 Darnestown Road), and the Burtonsville Town Center.

Kaiser Permanente is Coming to Aspen Hill

A Kaiser Permanente Medical Center will be constructed at the intersection of Connecticut and Georgia Avenue, directly south of Home Depot. It will take over a property left vacant in 2010 by former defense contractor Vitro Corporation, which until recently has been used for law enforcement tactical training purposes.

In 2018, Lindsay Ford submitted an application to build a car dealership in that space, but it was never constructed.

The project proposal suggests that the 10-acre site will be constructed in two phases. Phase 1 includes the development of a 130,000 square foot medical center with a 542-space parking lot and 63,144 square feet of open space. The open space will be occupied by a public green space plaza, a health and wellness trail, and a community garden.

Phase 2 includes the addition of a 50,000 square foot wing to the medical center, the construction of a parking garage to add additional spaces, and an expansion of the community garden and open space.

Construction is not yet underway, but the new medical facility is expected to open in 2022.
