Governor Larry Hogan announced on Thursday that Maryland has now surpassed 7 million COVID-19 vaccines administered. He told Marylanders, “it is clearer than ever that these vaccines are extremely effective, but those who are unvaccinated do remain at risk, especially with the highly transmissible variants”.

July 13th Update: Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge Lawrence Fletcher-Hill issued a ruling today that will continue Maryland’s participation in enhanced federal unemployment benefits. These benefits add an additional $300 to weekly unemployment claims.

NIST to Send Scientists and Engineers to Surfside, FL Collapse Site

The National Institute or Standards and Technology, headquartered in Gaithersburg, is sending a team of six scientists and engineers to the site of Thursday’s partial building collapse at Champlain Towers South “to collect firsthand information,” to determine if an investigation will be conducted, according to Local 10 News in Florida.

Former Damascus Football Player Bikes Across the Country Raising Money for ALS

On Saturday, June 26th Wil Armstrong, a 2016 Damascus High School graduate, commenced his cross-country bike ride “Against the Wind” from Rehoboth Beach, DE. He is expected to finish 2.5 months later in Seattle, Washington. Throughout this journey, Wil is updating his daily blog with his progress, experiences, and updates on his banana consumption count. During his cross-country journey, he is crowdfunding for the ALS Association after seeing his mentor and former basketball coach, Rodney Lapp, go through it.

Beyond MoCo: Six Flags America Closes Newest Ride Over Safety Concerns

Channel 7/WJLA is reporting that Six Flags American has temporarily closed its newest attraction, the Harley Quinn Spinsanity, due to safety concerns.  A video taken Sunday afternoon shows the support columns of the ride shaking.
