Maryland came in 2nd in the nation in a report by personal-finance website WalletHub that ranks the generosity of states based on charitable behavior.

With Americans having donated over $471 billion in 2020, up 5.1% from the previous year, WalletHub today released its report on the Most Charitable States for 2022.

WalletHub also released its picks for the Best Charities for 2022 and a Charity Calculator to help donors decide where and how to give.

To determine where the most generous Americans are inspiring others to be more selfless, WalletHub compared the 50 states based on 19 key indicators of charitable behavior. The data set ranges from the volunteer rate to the share of income donated to the share of sheltered homeless.

Generosity in Maryland (1=Most Charitable; 25=Avg.):

• 9^th – Charities per Capita
• 10^th – % of Donated Income
• 26^th – % of Population Who Donated Time
• 1^st – % of Population Who Donated Money
• 24^th – % of Population Collecting/Distributing Food
• 13^th – Volunteer Rate
• 4^th – Volunteer Hours per Capita
