Downed Tree Damages Car, Snarls Beltway Traffic

Shortly before 9AM Sunday, a large tree fell down on the Inner Loop of the Beltway between River Road and Bradley Blvd.

Immediately after the tree fell, a passing car struck part of the tree in the roadway. Fortunately, nobody was injured.

Firefighters from the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department and the Carderock Naval Surface Warfare Center quickly cleared the downed tree. They were assisted by a passing landscaping crew who stopped and assisted. Several lanes were briefly blocked but have since reopened.

Cabin John Firefighters Use Ice Cleats, Rope While Rescuing Injured Driver

Shortly after 7PM Saturday evening, career and volunteer Firefighters and Paramedics from the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 9300 block of Kendale Road where a SUV had ran off a slick driveway and its driver had fallen and was injured.

Responders arrived and were faced with extremely slick conditions caused by snow and ice buildup. Cabin John Park Volunteer Sergeant Patrick Khaghani tweeted that firefighters utilized a “simple rope system, ice cleats, and some sledding ingenuity” to rescue the driver from the icy conditions. The driver was then evaluated for their minor injuries.

Three People Trapped After Clara Barton Parkway Crash Late Last Night

Shortly before 10PM Monday, Montgomery County career and volunteer firefighters responded to an overturned vehicle on the Clara Barton Parkway near the MacArthur Blvd/Glen Echo Turnaround.

Responders arrived and found a vehicle that had crashed and came to rest on its side. Three people were stuck inside the vehicle. Members of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad and the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department worked together to stabilize the wrecked vehicle that was resting on its side so its occupants could be safely extricated. Luckily, all three occupants only had minor injuries. United States Park Police handled the crash report, as the Clara Barton Parkway is a federal Parkway.

The crash occurred on the Clara Barton Parkway, which was recently entirely repaved. Safety improvements such as new pavement markings and all new signs were also installed as part of the project.

Two Suffer Life-Threatening Injuries After Beltway Rollover

Around 1:40PM Saturday, Montgomery and Fairfax County Firefighters responded to the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway (I-495 North) between Persimmon Tree Road and River Road for a reported overturned vehicle. Responders found a vehicle that had ran off the roadway and struck a large, ground-mounted sign before overturning.

Firefighters and Paramedics evaluated 2 patients, both suffering from life threatening injuries. They were both transported to an area trauma center by Montgomery County Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians from the McLean Volunteer Fire Department. Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack Troopers handled the crash report.
