Per the State of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today announced that the State of Maryland’s COVID-19 positivity rate has dropped below 2%, and hospitalizations are now just one-tenth of what they were at the Omicron peak.


Montgomery Parks

Brookside Gardens announced today that its “Wings of Fancy” indoor butterfly exhibition has been cancelled for 2022 due to concerns about the pandemic.

When asked why the event was cancelled, given Montgomery County’s current COVID-19 case rate, Montgomery Parks said, “the exhibition is planned six months in advance. Given the information available at the time, we decided that safety of visitors, volunteers, and staff took priority.”

Montgomery County Public Schools have updated their quarantine and isolation periods from 10 days to five, effective March 1. Full details below from MCPS:

Beginning March 1, MCPS will be moving from a 10-day isolation and quarantine period for students to a 5-day isolation and quarantine, if certain health conditions are met. This aligns with our requirements for staff, and the recommendations of the CDC, Maryland Department of Health and our local DHHS.


Education

The Maryland State Board of Education voted 12-2 today to rescind its statewide mask mandate for public schools, effective March 1.  This will allow local school districts to decide their own masking policies.

The Montgomery County Board of Education is set to take up the school system’s mask policy at a meeting on February 24.

Beginning today, masks are no longer required to be worn inside of gyms, restaurants, stores, and other areas.  Below is a list of places that, for the time being,  will still require masks.

Public Schools: The Maryland State Board of Education has a statewide indoor mask requirement for public schools and is meeting today (February 22nd) to discuss future plans for the mask requirement.
