At approximately 1:24 p.m., officers observed two men get into the Equinox. After the suspects drove off, 4D officers attempted a traffic stop and the driver of the stolen car struck a civilian vehicle while attempting to escape. A short pursuit was initiated, and the suspects struck a second civilian vehicle at Georgia Ave. and Norbeck Rd.


Montgomery Village

Multiple vehicles were broken into overnight in the Cider Mill apartment complex in the 18000 block of Lost Knife Cir. in Montgomery Village. According to Montgomery County Police, “We responded to multiple calls of theft from auto. An adult male victim reported that between 01/10/223 6 p.m. and 1/11/23 5:30 a.m., an unknown suspect broke a window of his Honda Accord and stole an airbag.” Information regarding the other vehicles that were broken into is not available at this time.  We will post an update when additional information is released.

Silver Spring

The Urban Winery at 2315 Stewart Ave in Silver Spring was broken into on New Year’s Eve, according to posts on the winery’s social media pages.  Property was taken and police are investigating. Per Urban Winery:  “Everyone on our Urban Winery team and family want to thank MOCO Police for their assistance with our investigation in to our New Year Eve robbery and vandalism at the Urban Winery of Silver Spring. Gaithersburg

Per MCPD: Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have arrested and charged 38-year-old Darrell Amos Barnes Jr., of Rockville, and 35-year-old Marcus Antonio Umanzor, of Gaithersburg, for a strong-arm carjacking that occurred on Monday, December 19, 2022.

On December 19, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Gaithersburg Police and 6th District officers responded to the 200 block of N. Frederick Ave. for the report of a carjacking that just occurred. The investigation by detectives determined that the victim was sitting in the front passenger seat of a 2012 Honda Insight, when one suspect knocked on the window and told the victim to get out. The second suspect opened the driver’s side door and told the victim to get out. The victim exited the vehicle out of fear. Then, the second suspect drove away in the Honda and the first suspect walked away.


Beyond MoCo

Per the Frederick Police Department: The Frederick Police Department has arrested two individuals in relation to an early morning homicide that occurred on New Years Eve.

On December 31, 2022, at approximately 4:47 AM, officers of the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to the Frederick Health Hospital, located at 400 W Seventh Street, in Frederick City, for an adult female who had been stabbed.  Lifesaving efforts were provided to the female, but she was later pronounced dead. The victim was identified as Mary Alice Seward, 41.


Rockville

Per the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office: Today in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County, MD, before the Honorable Terrence McGann, a jury found defendant, Sophia Negroponte, 29, of Washington, D.C., guilty of Second-Degree Murder for the death of 24-year-old Yousuf Rasmussen.  Negroponte faces up to 40 years in prison and is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on March 31, 2023 at 9:30 a.m.  Assistant State’s Attorneys Donna Fenton and Robert Hill prosecuted this case. They joined State’s Attorney John McCarthy for a news conference following the verdict today, along with Dr. Zeba Rasmussen who is the mother of the victim. Potomac

The United States Park Police are searching for Alexander Shamuilov, 34, who is suspected to have broken into as many as 19 vehicles around Great Falls, Carderock, and Widewater in Potomac. Per Park Police: “Through the investigation of CC 22-035175, a theft from auto that occurred at Carderock Park on 4/19/22 SHAMUILOV has been developed as a suspect. In that case, a Honda sedan was entered by the suspect punching the driver’s door lock. Credit cards were then stolen from a purse and the vehicle was re-secured. This method of entry is consistent with 18 other TFA cases dating back to August of 2021 in the areas of Great Falls MD, Carderock and Widewater. Video in those cases show suspects similar to SHAMUILOV.


Takoma Park

Per the Takoma Park Police Department: Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department announces the arrests of Luis Samuel Rios Rodriguez, 35, of no fixed address and Abed Jonathan Midence-Lopez, 39, of Greenbelt, Maryland, for multiple offenses. Rodriguez was charged with attempted first degree murder, first degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and second degree assault. Midence-Lopez was charged with conspiracy to all of the listed charges.

On December 18, 2022, at approximately 2:47 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Takoma Park, Maryland. (Barriles Restaurant & Sports Bar) for shots fired with injuries. Upon officers arrival, both suspects were exiting the establishment to leave but were detained.

The Takoma Park Police Department tweeted the following on Sunday, December 18 at 5:30pm: “At approx 2:47 pm, Takoma Park Police responded to the 7600 bk of New Hampshire Ave for shots fired w/injuries. An adult male victim was shot & is currently in critical condition. Two suspects are in custody. Investigation is active. Lugo Peralta, 19, of Silver Spring was arrested in Lexington Park, MD on Wednesday morning for stealing used oil from nearby restaurants. Additional information courtesy of the St. Mary’s County Police Department:
