Montgomery Parks and Bethesda Urban Partnership Host Pop-Up Dog Park at Elm Street Urban Park Today (7/15/21)

Pop-up small dog park will be open July 15 – August 15, 2021, sunrise to sunset.

Montgomery Parks and the Bethesda Urban Partnership (BUP) are teaming up to provide a pop-up dog park at Elm Street Urban Park from July 15 – August 15, 2021. The temporary, 4,600-square foot dog park will be located in the northern section of Elm Street Urban Park and open from sunrise to sunset.

“We have received numerous requests from the Bethesda community to provide a safe, fun space for dogs (and their owners) to meet up and socialize,” said Jeff Burton, Executive Director of the Bethesda Urban Partnership. “We are excited to work with Montgomery Parks to provide a pop-up dog park in Elm Street Urban Park.”

The idea for the month-long pop-up dog park grew out of the Yappy Hour events hosted periodically by Montgomery Parks and BUP. Yappy Hours are evening events for dog owners (and their furry friends) to socialize with neighbors and dog lovers from around the county while enjoying live music and food, beer and wine from Bethesda restaurants.

“Our Yappy Hour events have been incredibly popular, so we wanted to give park users the opportunity to take advantage of this pop-up amenity over the next month,” said Mike Riley, Director of Montgomery Parks. “Programs and events like this one give residents more ways to connect with neighbors and friends outdoors in our parks.”

The temporary pop-up dog park will be maintained by BUP. Park users will be reminded to pick up after their dogs and adhere to all the Montgomery Parks dog park rules and regulations.
