The Aquilino Cancer Center, part of Adventist HealthCare’s Shady Grove Medical Center, is the first free-standing community cancer center in Montgomery County, MD that houses all patient services under one roof. Within Aquilino, is the Bill Richards Center for Healing, named for William (Bill) Richards, PhD, a world-renowned pioneer in the treatment of the depression and anxiety that frequently accompanies a cancer diagnosis.

On February 2nd, the center announced it received two significant donations totaling $1.5MM to continue its pioneering research and innovative therapies. Long-time supporters of Shady Grove Medical Center, Mike and Amy Aquilino are among the healing center’s most ardent supporters and the force behind naming the center to honor Dr. Richards.


Gaithersburg

All three cities in Montgomery County have announced that mask requirements will stay in place in city buildings after Montgomery County’s mask mandate expires tomorrow, February 21 at 11:59pm.

Gaithersburg

Construction commenced at Progress Labs at 700 N. Frederick Avenue in Gaithersburg, MD back in October. Progress Labs is a two-building approximately 495,000 SF development situated on 44 acres with prime I-270 visibility and access off of exit 11 Montgomery Village Avenue.

Included in the construction will be a new Chick Fil A location that we reported on back in October. The two main buildings included, seen in the image below, will total 495,000 sf.


Gaithersburg

Updated on 2/23/22 to reflect that the City of Gaithersburg has now issued demolition and site development permits to Wawa

We first let you know the news of Wawa’s impending arrival in May of 2019. Wawa will be taking over the old Becraft Antiques location on 355, across from Gaithersburg High School at 405 S Frederick Ave. Nearly 3 years later, many are still anxiously awaiting the arrival of the convenience store/gas station that serves fresh and built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, and more.

Qdoba at 16260 Frederick Road (Shady Grove intersection) in Gaithersburg will have its grand opening on February 28. The restaurant is located in the space that was formerly home to Jerry’s Subs and Pizza in the recently renovated and renamed Rock Grove Center.

The Chipotle style restaurant features burritos, bowls, salads, nachos and tacos. Qdoba also features a breakfast menu that is served until 10:30am daily.


Gaithersburg

&pizza tells us that opening dates sometimes change due to construction, but the scheduled opening date for this location is March 9. The store will be open daily from 11am-11pm.


Gaithersburg

Gaithersburg City Councilmember Rob Wu has announced that he running for Montgomery County Council in District 3. The seat is currently held by former Gaithersburg mayor, Sydney Katz.

As of today, there are no other candidates that have filed to run in the district.
