Per the City of Gaithersburg: The City invites you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with educational & cultural presentations that include a Día de los Muertos Altar exhibit, a school supply collection, a Tasty Book reading, an art exhibition, an official proclamation, & more. Residents are encouraged to learn about & celebrate Hispanic culture & participate in local events & programs taking place throughout the month, many coordinated by the City’s Multicultural Affairs Committee (MAC).

An official proclamation designating September 15 through October 15, 2021 as “National Hispanic Heritage Month” in the City will be presented at the September 20 Mayor & City Council meeting. The proclamation will be received by Identity, Inc. Program Director Carolyn Camacho & Identity Youth Ambassadors. The Ambassadors have been doing critical work during the pandemic, connecting with residents where they live to encourage vaccinations & provide information about food, health, housing, & other social service resources. Gaithersburg

Construction has started at the upcoming Qdoba location in the newly rebranded Rock Grove Center on the corner of 355 and Shady Grove Road.

The fast-casual chain will be opening its newest location at 16260 Frederick Road in the location that was formerly home to Jerry’s Subs and Pizza.


Gaithersburg

On September 15, officers from the Montgomery County Police – 6th District responded to the 11000 block of Game Preserve Road to assist the Maryland Department of National Resources Police with a call for the found remains of an adult male. The body of the adult male had been discovered in a pond.

The Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division, have identified the remains as Waymon Meadows Anderson, age 57, of Montgomery Village. Anderson had been reported missing and was last seen in the 9900 block of Medical Center Drive on September 11, 2021.


Lakeforest Mall

New Coffee Shop Opening Soon at Former Ruby Tuesday Location at Lakeforest Mall in Gaithersburg

Equity Coffee will be opening up this fall inside of the space formerly occupied by Ruby Tuesday in Lakeforest Mall. Ruby Tuesday closed the location back in March of 2020 and there are currently no more Ruby Tuesday’s left in Montgomery County.

La Poteria in the Montgomery Village Shopping Center is holding their soft opening now through Sunday. They will be open from 7am-2pm.

Their menu features coffee, empanadas, waffles, hot dogs (perros calientes), and other Colombian street food.You can also find La Poteria at the Clarksburg Outlets Monday through Friday from 12-5PM, Saturday from 11AM-7PM, and Sunday 11AM-6PM.

Ichiban Restaurant in Gaithersburg to Close After Over 35 Years in Business on Sunday, September 12

Ichiban Restaurant at 637 N Frederick Ave in Gaithersburg will be closing its doors tomorrow after over 35 years in business.  The current owners, which took over in the business in 2005, also own two other local restaurants that will remain open, Aery and Ichiban Mikoshi Sushi, both located inside the LOTTE Market at 221 Muddy Branch Rd Gaithersburg.
