Glenstone Museum has announced that it will be suspending indoor dining at the Cafe and Patio and will be reducing visitor capacity starting today, Thursday, December 23.
Glenstone is an art museum based in Potomac. The museum displays exhibits of contemporary and modern art from post-WWII artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Andy Goldsworthy, Jeff Koons, Richard Serra, and more. A large portion of the museum’s art and architecture can be viewed through an outdoor walking tour experience, spread out throughout the 300 acre property.
The museum is free to visit, although tickets are required for entry. Glenstone offers a guaranteed entry (no ticket required) program for students, active military personnel, museum professionals, and Ride On Bus passengers. Glenstone also partners with MCPS to offer free field trips for students. All visitors must be over age 12.

Additional COVID-19 Safety Measures
The safety and wellbeing of our visitors and associates are our top priorities and we have adjusted our visitor experience to include additional COVID-19 safety measures. These include:
• Requiring visitors and staff to wear masks indoors; masks must always fit snugly under the chin (please note: gaiters and masks with exhalation valves are not permitted)
• Scheduling visits in advance and reducing visitor capacity
• As of Thursday, December 23, 2021 suspending indoor dining at the Café and Patio, and offering outdoor-only dining at the Patio, weather permitting
• Requesting visitors reschedule their visit if they have tested positive for COVID-19 or been exposed to COVID-19 within the last 14 days, have not followed current travel restrictions identified by the state, or feel unwell

RM of BTS Visits MoCo’s Glenstone Museum
Recently, rapper RM visited Glenstone Museum in Potomac while on a trip to the DC area. He posted two different sets of photos from his visit on Instagram. One post includes the caption “돌의 마을.. 세라가 잘 어울렸다,” which roughly means “The village of stone… Serra built it well,” referring to sculptures by artist Richard Serra.
27 year old RM is one of the founding members and the leader of South Korean boy band BTS. The band has been active since 2013 and currently has 7 members: RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook. BTS has won numerous awards internationally and have been one of the few groups to earn four US number one albums in less than two years (a distinction also held by The Beatles). Some of their singles include songs “Butter,” “Mic Drop,” “Savage Love,” and “Permission to Dance.”

Glenstone Museum in Potomac has reopened as an outdoor-only experience on Thursday-Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Visitors will be allowed in groups no larger than 5 at a time, and each group is scheduled to arrive at least 15 minutes apart. Masks are required, and different groups must remain 6 feet apart.
Indoor facilities such as bathrooms and dining areas are closed, and certain paths have been modified to reduce foot traffic. All visitors must be 12 or older and all minors (ages 12-17) must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Glenstone Museum originally opened in 2006 and currently offers numerous outdoor sculptures across nearly 300 acres of landscaped land. The museum provides an interactive experience with art, architecture, and nature, and walking shoes are recommended when visiting.
Tickets are free of charge and are released for reservations on Glenstone.org at 10 a.m. every Monday in two-week increments.

Even though Glenstone is currently closed, the Potomac art museum has created ways to allow the community to visit from home. They are hosting facebook live discussions with their Guides, are sharing photos of current works, and are transforming some of their exhibits so that viewers at home can share in the experience. One of their interactive exhibits is an installation by artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, which consists of a pile of fortune cookies assembled in the corner of the museum. Glenstone explains what the traditional in-person experience would look like and how they have changed the process so folks at home can participate.
“In ordinary days, visitors would be able to take a cookie for themselves, read their fortune, and contemplate Gonzalez-Torres’ work and the questions it raises: how has this moment shifted our perceptions of public space? What does this work mean if you cannot be physically near it to take a cookie? How can we make and experience art across physical and digital boundaries?
In the spirit of the work, if you leave a 🥠 in the comments of this post from now until July 5, 2020, when this exhibition ends, we will respond with a random fortune taken from the one of the cookies in our pile.”
