Governor Hogan released the following statement on Friday, April 8:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—Governor Larry Hogan today again called on the Maryland General Assembly to pass emergency legislation to hold violent criminals accountable, as he took action to allow legislation regarding untraceable firearms to become law without his signature.

On Wednesday, April 7, Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court with a 53-47 vote.  All 50 senate Democrats and 3 Republicans voted in favor of the nomination, while 47 Republicans voted against.

Jackson will be the Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.


Kensington

The Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) participated in the financing of Silver Creek Senior Living Apartments in Kensington to create affordable housing for seniors. For residents ages 62 and over, the new building has 10 units available at 30 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), 69 units at 60 percent of the AMI and 15 units at 80 percent of the AMI.


Maryland

Last week, the Maryland House and Senate voted and passed House Bill 1, which will add a constitutional amendment for cannabis use on the ballot in this November’s election.

According to the Cannabis Business Times, “the Maryland House voted, 94-39, on April 1 to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot via House Bill 1, asking the state’s constituency if it favors legalization of cannabis use by those 21 and older by July 1, 2023. That vote concurred with Senate amendments to the bill.”
