The wait is over, as the much anticipated opening of La Gula Mexicana is here. The restaurant is currently holding a soft opening, as they train new staff and work out a few kinks prior to fully opening.

La Gula Mexicana is owned and operated by the same people who have brought you Taco Bar El Guero (located in Gaithersburg near Rio) and Ixtapalapa on 355 in Gaithersburg.

The restaurant is located in the Milestone Center in Germantown (21030 Frederick Rd Suite J), in the location that was formerly home to Agrodolce.

The menu, part of which can be seen below, consists of started such as corn fritters and plantain hush puppies, soups, salads, and burritos. Not shown in the menu below are all breakfast items as well as tacos and other items that will be offered.

La Gula will also offer a drink menu that includes specialty cocktails, house margaritas, beer, and wine.

The current hours are 8am until 10pm, daily.

It has been over a year and a half since we let you know that La Gula Mexicana would be taking over the old Agrodolce spot in the Milestone Center in Germantown (21030 Frederick Rd Suite J).

In our last update this past March, there wasn’t much progress in the interior, but we stopped by and things have definitely picked up (photos available below). It looks like the interior is nearly complete and the finishing touches were being placed on the outdoor patio.

We don’t have an opening date, but would definitely expect a 2021 opening based on the progress.

Though Agrodolce is missed by many in the community, Diners can take solace in the fact that the new restaurant will be owned and operated by the folks who have brought you Taco Bar (in the gas station in Rio) and Ixtapalapa in Gaithersburg.

We are told the menu will be a fusion of the best of Taco Bar and Ixtapalapa along with the new items and the service will be similar to Ixta except for a small bar area where a bartender can provide you with full service.

La Gula will also have breakfast items.
