The Montgomery County Council is now tentatively scheduled to vote next week on the proposed “vaccine passport” for businesses.

At today’s meeting, the Council held a public hearing and discussion on the resolution that would require restaurants, bars, fitness centers and other establishments to require customers to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 before entering indoor areas, as proposed by County Executive Elrich.


MoCo

Montgomery County announced today that the afternoon test kit distribution will now begin at 5pm.

Additionally, you can now get free at-home COVID-19 test kits delivered from COVIDtests.gov. Each household is eligible to order four free kits.


Education

During this morning’s County Council meeting, Interim Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight and Board of Education Vice President Brenda Wolfe gave an update on MCPS’ COVID-19 response.

McKnight said that an announcement will be coming later today regarding more schools going virtual beginning this Thursday, January 20th. The schools were not listed during the meeting.


Retail

National chain Dollar Tree, which has MoCo locations in Derwood, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Montgomery Village, Rockville, and Silver Spring, has raised the price of all items in their stores from $1 to $1.25.

According to Market Watch, Dollar Tree says the higher prices are not a result of inflation, but rather to allow the company to offer a wider range of merchandise.
