WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, will be closing a portion of Sligo Creek Parkway to vehicles and the trail to pedestrians and bicyclists from Carroll Avenue to Jackson Avenue beginning on Monday, March 7, 2022.
Trail construction will address drainage improvements to mitigate flooding on the trail. Construction is anticipated to take approximately one month to complete. Pedestrians and bicyclists will be able to access Sligo Creek Parkway during the closure.
Sligo Creek Parkway is part of the department’s Open Parkways program, in which roads are closed to vehicular traffic on weekends and some holidays to provide more open space for people to exercise and recreate with such activities as walking, cycling, running, and skating.
This roughly 10.2-hard surface trail is one of the oldest in the County.
The trail is the heaviest-used facility in the stream valley park and provides recreation for persons of all ages and abilities. Several paved, and a few unpaved, trails are scattered throughout the park and connect other park facilities, schools, and neighborhoods to the main trail.
