Phase One of Twinbrook Quarter is located on the southwest corner of the property at Rockville Pike and Halpine Road and includes residential and commercial space, including a new Wegmans.

The Wegmans and surrounding new development will be right next to Twinbrook metro– occupying the former home of Pizza CS, Hooters, Fuddruckers, Salvation Army, and more.

Per the Reimagine Twinbrook Website:

You’ll start to see a lot of activity on the site beginning in September. Our work begins in earnest to commence digging for the garage under the Phase One building. We are now working to install sediment control measures, which will contain run-off from the construction site. This will take a few weeks, weather permitting, after which we begin removing asphalt. At that time you’ll begin to see dump trucks coming and going from the property.

We’re also creating two construction entrances on our property – one on Rockville Pike and the other at the intersection of Chapman Ave. and Halpine Rd. All construction related activity will take place on-site.

Installing Piling for Foundation

As we excavate for the underground garage, we’ll also start pile-driving, which installs the piling – or vertical structure – for the building’s foundation. Pile-driving will most likely start in mid-September and will last for a few weeks, weather permitting. We don’t expect this work to have much impact on homes in Twinbrook, as they are a distance away from the site.

Construction Hours

Hours of operation at the construction site are 7 AM–7 PM Monday through Friday.

Phase one is not expected to be completed for a couple years.

Back on January 1st we reported that Light House Tofu & BBQ would be closing at the end of January. Our article and social media posts led to an outpouring of support that allowed the restaurant to stay open longer, pushing back a scheduled auction of the restaurant’s equipment.

A week after that, we were told an agreement was made with the landlord to remain open for the time being.

Sadly, we were informed earlier this afternoon that today would be the last day for the restaurant located on Twinbrook Pkwy that has been operating for approximately 15 years.

The restaurant focused on traditional Korean cooking, ranging from BBQ ribs to specialty tofu stews.

Earlier today, a local restaurant group picked up equipment that was purchased months ago from the restaurant.

The Rockville Planning commission approved the first stage of development of the upcoming Twinbrook Quarter, which includes Wegmans.
The long awaited groundbreaking is anticipated to occur in 2021.

The Wegmans will be 92,000 square feet, and is planned to be built on the corner of Rockville Pike and Halpine Road. Along with the store, an apartment complex and parking garage will be added to the site. Developers estimate the initial stage of development will be completed by 2024.

The Wegmans is part of a major multi-phase development that was officially approved by the Rockville Planning Commission, according to Bethesda Magazine. The development includes several new apartment buildings, numerous office and retail locations, and a 1-acre park.

Many of the stores in the area, including Fuddruckers, Pizza CS, and Toosso have closed or moved in anticipation of the development.
