First MCPS School Named In Honor Of An Openly Gay Person

According to the MCPS website: The Board of Education voted on Thursday, April 12, to name the new elementary school in the Richard Montgomery cluster Bayard Rustin Elementary School. The Rockville school is currently under construction and scheduled to open for the 2018-2019 school year. Bayard Rustin was a civil rights leader, gay rights activist and an organizer of the 1963 civil rights march in Washington D.C.
