Notes from Governor Hogan’s 11/12 Press Conference

 

Maryland is reporting 159,900 confirmed cases with a seven day positivity rate now at 5.65%. Half of our jurisdictions have positivity rates above 5%.

 

Maryland COVID hospitalizations are up 53% over the past 2 weeks. There are 863 COVID patients are currently hospitalized, which is the highest since June 11th. 199 patients are currently in the ICU, which is the highest since June 25th.

 

Maryland’s average cases per 100k rose again today to 22.8, a 52% increase over the past seven days. Case rates are above 10 in 22 jurisdictions and above 20 in 10 jurisdictions. 4,112 Marylanders have lost their lives to this virus.

 

Over 460,000 Marylanders have already subscribed to our MD COVID Alert contact tracing app.

 

Governor Hogan calls on leaders in Washington to “put the politics aside, do their jobs” and reach compromise on next stimulus package.

 

Maryland Department of Commerce is working with local jurisdictions to distribute $50 million in direct relief to restaurants. Nearly half of the state’s jurisdictions have begun accepting applications. The department of commerce has been processing hundreds of applications daily for the third round of the state’s Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Fund. Those payments will be disbursed in the coming days.

 

Governor Hogan governor announces another $70 million in targeted investments utilizing CARES Act funding to further bolster the state’s emergency response to this recent surge.

 

Governor Hogan announces $20 million for additional PPE for the Maryland Department of Health to continue stockpiling PPE.

 

$15 million will go to unemployment insurance.

 

$10 million will go to rental assistance to cover rent for low income tenants.

 

$10 million to accelerate the state’s planning for the distribution of a Covid vaccine.

 

$10 million will go to food banks across the state.

 

$2 million will go to foster care providers.

 

$2 million will go to the Maryland Department of Human Services to help with SNAP and energy assistance programs.

 

$1 million will go to an innovative wastewater program.
