Bill Introduced That Would Require Contracts for Single Family Home Sales to Include Notice of Possible School District Changes
The Montgomery County Delegation has introduced a bill in the Maryland House of Delegates which would require contracts for sales of single-family residential properties in MoCo to include a notice that school district boundaries may be subject to change.
The act would take effect on Oct. 1, 2021.
The bill received support from County Executive Marc Elrich and from the County Council in an 8-1 vote. Councilmember Andrew Friedson was the only member to vote against supporting the bill as he does not see a state bill concerning just MoCo to be necessary, he said.
A similar bill was proposed last year, and it received support from the County Executive but the County Council took no position as the discussion of school boundary changes was still ongoing, according to Councilmember Craig Rice.
The Council and council staff also discussed having a local bill that that would work in conjunction with the state order to ensure smooth implementation of the policy.
