Gaithersburg and Montgomery County Police responded to a potential threat at Gaithersburg High School this morning at 11:55am.
According to Gaithersburg Police, two unknown individuals were reportedly observed entering the high school through a secured door and were believed to have been possibly armed. After an investigation the threat was determined to be unfounded.
The school was placed in a Shelter in Place during the investigation.
Per the Gaithersburg City Police:
Today at 11:55 a.m., officers from the Gaithersburg Police and Montgomery County Police Department – 6th District responded to Montgomery County Public Schools – Gaithersburg High School located at 101 Education Boulevard for the report of a suspicious situation. Due to an abundance of caution and information school staff received regarding a possible threat to the safety and security of their building, the school was placed into a Shelter In Place. Two unknown individuals were observed entering the school through a secured door and they were believed to have been possibly armed. During the course of investigation, it was determined that the threat was unfounded. The Shelter in Place has since been lifted and police have cleared the school.
