Detectives Investigate Armed Carjacking in Silver Spring; Surveillance Photos of Suspect Released

For Immediate Release: Friday, March 11, 2022

Gaithersburg, MD – Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred at the Citgo gas station in the 13600 block of Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Detectives have released surveillance photographs of the male suspect and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him.

 

At approximately 10:10 p.m., 4th District Officers responded to the location for the report of an armed carjacking that just occurred.

 

The investigation by detectives has determined that the victim parked his silver 2006 Honda Accord bearing Maryland license plate 1EK3411 in the parking lot of the gas station. The victim left his vehicle unlocked with the key in the ignition and entered the gas station to purchase some food. The suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene.

 

The victim then solicited the assistance of a witness to help follow the suspect in his vehicle. The victim and the witness pursued the suspect to the area of Connecticut Ave. and Bel Pre Rd., where the suspect threatened the victim with a knife and told him to stay away. The suspect fled the scene. The victim then contacted 911 and reported the incident to the police.

 

Detectives reviewed the surveillance footage of the gas station and obtained a physical description of the suspect.

 

The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 5-feet, 7-inches tall, 160 lbs, wearing a black mask, a black hooded jacket, dark blue jeans and black/white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect of this crime is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070 or contact Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect. Callers can remain anonymous.
