Playa Bowls to Open Fifth MoCo Location

Playa Bowls will open its fifth Montgomery County location at Chevy Chase Lake. Three residential developments are slated to be part of the Chevy Chase Lake development in Chevy Chase and the development is designed to be a walkable, mixed-use community with a town center and access to the Capital Crescent Trail.

It is located adjacent to Connecticut Avenue and the planned Purple Line transit system, which will provide an east-west connection between Montgomery and Prince George’s counties.

Playa Bowls was founded by surfers Abby Taylor & Rob Giuliani, and “born out of the desire to recreate the delicious, refreshing, healthy versions of acai and pitaya bowls the pair encountered on various surf trips to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, California, and Hawaii.” Their Chevy Chase Lake location will cover 1,748 square feet and begin serving up bowls to customers in fall 2022.

Playa Bowls, which offers Açaí Bowls, Pitaya, Coconut Bowls, smoothies, and more, opened its first store almost 7 years ago in the Jersey Shore and has since expanded to almost 100 locations.

The company has opened multiple locations in the DC area in recent years. In Montgomery County, they have opened in Potomac, MD (Cabin John Village), Kensington (Knowles Station), Olney (Fair Hill), and most recently in Gaithersburg (known as Playa Bowls Darnestown).
