Overheated Scooter Battery Causes Fire in Bethesda

A electronic scooter’s lithium ion battery overheated early Tuesday morning, causing a fire in a third story apartment on Bradley Blvd in Bethesda, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue PIO Pete Piringer.

MCFRS units were called to the scene at approximately 4:30am Tuesday morning to fight the blaze and escort residents out of the building.

The fire was put out by 5:08am and one adult resident was evaluated and treated for minor burns. The resident was then transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire caused approximately $150k in damages and three people were displaced.
